The primary objective of the Manager, Engineering is to lead and manage the staking, planning, and design functions within Habersham EMC to help achieve the mission of the cooperative and to safely provide reliable service to its members. This role will ensure that reliable, safe and cost-effective services and/or facilities are planned, constructed in a consistent manner and maintained at the lowest reasonable cost consistent with good engineering and business practices.

The following are the essential duties of this position and do not include marginal functions that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties. The scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of HABERSHAM EMC.
Manage, supervise, coordinate, direct and assist Engineering areas of Habersham EMC, including Design/Staking, Planning, and Engineering with the knowledge and expertise needed to provide Habersham EMC’s members and other departments within the cooperative the necessary tools and information needed to complete all jobs efficiently and effectively while maintaining a safe work environment.
Ensures optimal service and reliability of our electric system through the establishment of design standards, policies, procedures and practices that optimize functionality and efficiency in all Engineering areas.
Oversees the management, organization, planning, and operation of the Staking Technicians which ensures the safe and proper planning, design, and documentation of the Cooperative’s distribution power system and fiber-optic lines.
Ensures Engineering work is completed in accordance with RUS specifications, the National Electric Safety Code, and Habersham EMC standards.
Assist in the development of all studies required by RUS (Work Plan, Long Range Plan, Sectionalizing Study, Contingencies Study and Borrowers Environment Report (BER) and others as requested.
Work with leadership, peers, and staff in developing and managing the department budgets.
Conduct work order inspection and review of work orders.
Administers annual staff performance reviews, maintains accurate job descriptions for each position, provide an objective evaluation of individual performance with effective written evaluations and ratings.
Provides clear instructions and plans for individuals to improve job performance in areas not meeting requirements. Accurately identifies training needs and recommends sources of training.
Suggests goals and objectives for the long-term development of the employee and benefit of HEMC above and beyond the job expectations.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as required by management to meet the needs of the organization and our members.

Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, electrical preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
Requires a minimum of 7-10 years of highly-demonstrated engineering experience in an electric cooperative including distribution design. A combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge may be considered.
Thorough knowledge of overhead and underground system design and reliability, engineering, and maintenance.
Excellent organizational ability to successfully enhance Engineering’s effectiveness and drive productivity.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Computer proficiency required including Microsoft Office.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Requires the ability to have and maintain a Georgia driver’s license and to satisfactorily pass Habersham EMC’s employment entrance examination and drug screen.
Ability to work varying hours and during emergency situations.
