Lane Electric Cooperative (LEC) is seeking a competent and enthusiastic candidate to assume the senior management position of Manager, Engineering. LEC (www.LaneElectric.com) is a member-owned electric cooperative serving portions of the southern Willamette Valley surrounding the Eugene/Springfield area. The cooperative serves 13,000 consumer/members in a service territory that covers 2,600 square miles. LEC operates and maintains 1,468 miles of distribution and transmission lines and has annual revenue of $25.9 million. Plant value is $85.8 million (gross). The Cooperative receives most of its wholesale power from the Bonneville Power Administration and is a member of the Pacific Northwest Generating Cooperative (i.e., G&T).
The Manager of Engineering is part of a five-member senior management team that reports directly to the General Manager. The position is responsible for the design, construction and operation of the utility’s power system. Duties are conducted in collaboration with the Manager, Operations. Supervisory and management authority include Engineering Department, and automated metering infrastructure; areas that currently employ six professionals. The Manager of Engineering is also expected to advise LEC’s Board of Directors on topics related to the power system, policy review and development, and presentations on annual budget and long-range construction work plans. Candidates must have at least five (5) years electric utility experience, and it is preferred they have a minimum five (5) years senior management experience. A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is required, with Professional Electrical Engineer credentials preferred. However, extensive electric utility experience in a related capacity, and in a senior staff role, may substitute for college degree. The successful candidate will be a person of high integrity and have proven leadership skills. The individual must also be a team player, having strong interpersonal and communication skills. It is desirable that candidates have an interest in advancement within LEC and considered in LEC’s succession planning.
LEC headquarters is located in Eugene at the southern end of the Willamette Valley. Portland is 100 miles north via Interstate 5. Pacific Coast beaches are an hour’s drive to the west, and the crest of the Cascade Mountains are a similar distance to the east. Both the Willamette and McKenzie rivers flow through the Eugene/Springfield area. It's an ideal location for those wanting to live in a picturesque area that has an abundance of recreational opportunities. Eugene is also home for the University of Oregon with its availability of education, athletic and cultural resources.
