Position responsible for day-to-day airside and landside operations of the airport. Assists with rescue and post-accident recovery operations. Conducts ramp and hangar inspections to ensure safe and efficient operations of the Airport. This employee is responsible for representing management on all matters concerning airport operations in the absence of high authority. Acts as the primary contact for Airport management with tenants, FAA Air Traffic Control, Police, Airport Rescue and Firefighting personnel, contractors and other governmental agencies and city departments. Inspects terminal, facilities and grounds; responds to emergencies and incidents and represents management; coordinates and monitors airport construction activities; NOTAM issuance; completes special projects and/or assignments; assists with the badging and training process.

Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Airport Management, Aviation Science, Business or Public Administration combined with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in airport operations or administration preferred; or a high school diploma and equivalent combination of education, military experience, training and relevant airport experience. Certified Member designation of ACE (Operations or Security) through the American Association of Airport Executive (AAAE) is strongly preferred.

The Director of Airports is charged with management of the Shreveport Regional Airport (SHV) which is a commercial air carrier airport and the Shreveport Downtown Airport (DTN) which is Louisiana's largest General Aviation airport. The annual operating budget for the Airport is approximately $25 million, and the department employs approximately 70 people. Downtown Airport logged more than 64,000 airport operations in 2015, has an Airframe & Powerplant school and is experiencing rapid growth.
