The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a NSHE Specialist 1, for the Facilities Services, Parking and Transportation Department. ***This position does not provide layoff rights and is contingent upon funding. This position is responsible for coordinating parking lot construction planning and the supervision and direction of the Parking Services Enforcement, Maintenance staff and Special Events staff. Other duties include, but are not limited to: ensuring parking enforcement officers are trained in all aspects of enforcement; ensuring maintenance staff are trained in all aspects of maintenance; coordinating parking lot construction planning with Facilities Services project managers; communicating all closures, detours and changes to campus community, public and visitors to campus; function as the Chief Operating Officer during special events; executing event plans and scheduling special events in accordance with the pre-approved action plan and approved guidelines; overseeing all contracted personnel and internal staff for each event; coordinating policies, procedures and rule compliance; recommending traffic control devices for use on campus roadways; managing personnel by using effective written and oral communication skills; coordinating personnel management by hiring new staff, developing work performance standards and conducting performance reviews; delegating tasks and responsibilities; implementing and monitoring program activities by planning and organizing each unit’s routine, including projects and emergency work; evaluating unit work activity to identify efficiencies and continuous improvements; maintaining unit schedules; managing budgets within approved guidelines to limit overtime; and other duties as assigned.

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. This position is subject to occasional travel. Evening and weekend overtime required for special events.
This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one year of relevant experience; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of program support experience equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III in Nevada state service which included applying complex laws and regulations, composing written materials and maintaining records; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
This position is subject to a variable workweek schedule. This position requires walking or standing to a significant degree; pushing and/or pulling; exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; and exposure to hot and cold temperatures when working outside.
