To provide service, line construction and maintenance of the Cooperatives’s distribution system; to train in the construction, operation and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution facilities.
2 MINIMUM JOB SPECIFICATIONS
1) High School Graduate/Equivalent.
2) Ability to successfully complete training course and develop skills necessary for line distribution work.
3) Ability to develop a thorough knowledge and skill within each of the specified steps of lineman progression.
4) Ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of corporate procedures and safety practices, basic knowledge of first-aid, safety rules, line materials and tools and their use.
5) Ability to become proficient in climbing poles.
6) Ability to rapidly gain an effective knowledge of basic electricity, construction work and construction units.
7) Ability to read and interpret maps and staking sheets.
8) Ability to gain a good working knowledge of all types of metering.
9) Supplying own hand tools and climbing gear.
10) Passing company required physical exam and meeting DOT certification.
11) Obtaining a valid Class A Commercial North Dakota driver's license and relevant endorsements.
1) Previous work experience in an electrical distribution system.

4 PHYSICAL DEMANDS

5 WORKING CONDITIONS
Outside work in various weather conditions and terrain, availability for necessary overtime and to be on call, as required; rotates between Construction, Electrical Service, and Line Maintenance Departments as needed.

Two way communication with immediate supervisor to receive direction, instruction, approvals; to provide work related information in a timely manner; with First Class Lineman to receive work direction, training and guidance; with all members of the line crew to provide support and assistance.

7 RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following are major responsibilities of this position. They are not intended to cover each aspect of the position as the scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of the Corporation. The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
a) Performs duties of Driver Operator and Equipment Operator as required.
b) Operates truck and assists in loading and unloading material.
c) Checks material in and out at warehouse and retires old line and facilities. Properly secures all material when loading.
d) Operates all vehicles in accordance with state and local laws.
e) Maintains thorough knowledge of jobs being performed and anticipates needs of crew.
f) Sends tools and materials up pole with approved hand line and other equipment.
g) Properly makes up, on the ground, conductor dead end assemblies for the Linemen.
h) Sets up reels and helps string wire.
i) Bores all holes and frames and installs all poles according to specifications.
j) Trenches for and drives in ground rods.
k) Performs stringing, sagging, installing armor rods and tying in conductors of all sizes and types on dead primary poles and de-energized circuits for training purposes.
l) Installs and connects transformers, fuse cut-outs, arrestors, switches and oil circuit reclosures on dead structures for training purposes.
m) Assists in splicing broken conductors, re-sagging broken lines, replacing damaged electrical equipment and performing other construction, retirements, operation and maintenance work on dead equipment for training purposes.
n) Energizes transformers and switches with approved insulated sticks from the ground as required.
o) Assists in tree trimming and clearing of right-of-way as required.
p) Properly checks voltage on meter bases and underground poles with volt meter, as required.
q) Receives training on installing and connecting transformers, fuses, cutouts, arrestors, switches and/or circuit reclosures on dead structures at job supervisor's discretion.
r) Digs holes and anchors poles, sets and aligns poles and anchors, makes up and installs all types of guys. Strings, sags, and installs armor rods and ties in conductors of all sizes and types on dead primary poles and structures according to MWEC’s specifications.
s) Reads meters as directed. Installs and removes meters, meter sockets and meter equipment and collects on delinquent accounts as directed.
t) Performs necessary work on energized secondary lines and equipment while positioned at least four feet below the lowest point of attachment of primary line to the pole under direct supervision.
u) Energizes transformer OCRs and switches with approved insulated sticks, underground and overhead, as directed.
v) Is proficient in the use of hotline cover up protection on single phase and minimal cover up on three phase structures when performing the following duties: hanging transformer switches, single phase underground terminators.
w) Assists in an aerial lift device while working on structures or in situations where line is energized.
Works on any energized structure under established safety procedures.
y) Runs service from existing secondary source, without immediate supervision.
z) Completes assigned duties in accordance with MWEC standards in the specified time frame and within established safety guidelines.
aa) Effectively meets job qualification standards as required by OSHA.
bb) Maintains availability for necessary on call and overtime work; promptly responds to calls requiring overtime work.
cc) Cuts right-of-way, performs landscaping, concrete, and asphalt repairs as required.
dd) Effectively installs conduits and plastic ducts.
ee) Visually check lines, poles, insulators, transformers, service entrances, rights-of-way, etc. for damages or unsafe conditions and reports same to immediate supervisor.
ff) Completes all necessary forms, reports, records, and information in an accurate and timely manner.
gg) Abides by corporate policies, by-laws, rules and regulations.
hh) Responsible for the daily inspection, service and maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment.
ii) Advises immediate supervisor of maintenance needs on tools, vehicles, and other equipment.
jj) Shows concern for consumer property and insures all work areas are left in a clean and safe condition.
kk) Participates in job training, tailgate and safety meetings.
ll) Abides by all safety rules, practices and standards and performs all duties and tasks in a safe manner.
mm) Assists in handling emergencies and outages as directed.
8 POSITION SPECIFICATION:
This is a full time, non-exempt, hourly paid position. Requires sitting and use of personal computer keyboard, lifting, carrying, twisting, reaching, crawling, squatting, and bending when working on installation and repair. Maximum weight to lift is approximately 50 pounds. Requires good finger dexterity and ability to perform close work.
