Montclair State University/Arts & Cultural Programming is accepting resumes for all freelance, part time technical positions to support Peak Performances productions at the Alexander Kasser Theater. We will be expanding our overhire list to support several development workshops in the next few months, as well as large scale productions in the future. Rates are competitive in a friendly & comfortable work environment. Available positions include Electrics, Audio, Video, Carpenter, Fly Rail I Rigger, Wardrobe and General Stagehand.
The Kasser Stage Technicians are the individuals who are responsible for the physical loading in, setting up, and running of the various productions put on at the Alexander Kasser Theater. They handle the loading and unloading of equipment and scenery from trucks, hang and focus all of the lighting required, install all of the scenery, rigging, and flooring, and install and operate all necessary audio and video equipment for productions. All of this under the leadership of the Staff Department Heads. On any given day, duties can range from sweeping, mopping, and pushing boxes, to hanging lights, rigging scenery in the air, or painting, to repairing cables, laying down dance floor, or running the fly rail, with a wide variety beyond those. While specific backgrounds are kept in mind while assigning crews, all technicians are expected to have a certain level of flexibility in the tasks they are assigned.
Specific tasks often asked of the stage technicians include, but are not limited to: Hang, circuit, and focus lights
Load in and assemble scenery
Construct staging and platforms for concerts Clean and maintain the venue
Assist in cleaning, repairing, and generally maintaining existing inventory
Build new scenery using skills in carpentry and welding Operate the fly rail, including loading weight
Handle the cleaning and maintenance of any and all wardrobe for productions
Set up and operate all necessary audio equipment for a production Perform other duties as assigned
Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time
Flexibility and the ability to improvise in unexpected situations. Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Ability to lift at least 50lbs Â .
Flexibility to work occasionally long or inconsistent hours.
QualificationsÂ Â Â
Two years' experience in a professional theater setting or equivalent experience.
Ability to take instruction and work both independently and within a team.
Ability to keep a professional demeanor at all times Attention to detail
Commitment to health and safety
Working knowledge off lighting, sound, or other technical equipment.
