Campus Venue Services, a division of University Services, provides a broad range of event, performance, and venue support services for the Princeton University community. The Performing Arts Services unit manages a historic concert hall, Richardson Auditorium, and a dedicated student performing venue, Frist Theater, and provides support for multiple University theaters and venues.
The Performing Arts Services Senior Production Manager (Manager) provides a broad range of operational technical support for the performing arts, University convocations, and departmental events across campus. With excellent leadership skills, technical expertise, and a thorough understanding of venues and genres, the Manager leads teams of production technicians providing professional event lighting, audio, video, and stage management support at multiple venues. The Manager is a valuable technical resource for the University, providing technical consultation and implementing production operational plans to support the vision of artists and presenters.
Based in Richardson Auditorium, the Senior Production Manager is responsible for all technical operations in the hall, supporting over 200 performances, rehearsals, and events annually. The Manager serves as the technical lead for major University convocations, including Commencement events and Opening Exercises, providing leadership for a cross-unit team of technical service providers. The Manager has oversight of the Frist Theater and provides consultation, event support, and maintenance services for campus theaters, including the Lewis Arts complex, Whitman Class of 1970 Theater, Wilson Black Box Theater, Forbes Black Box Theater, Taplin Auditorium, and the Matthews Acting Studio.
As the lead for all technical operations at Richardson Auditorium, the Senior Production Manager provides advance logistical planning, leadership of technical teams, and operational support. The Manager is a resource and creative partner on the technical capabilities in the hall, production and stage design, and event flow. The Manager coordinates all equipment and production staffing needed to support rehearsals and events. The Manager coordinates set-up and strike of the stage and backstage areas. During rehearsals and performances, the Manager and team operate the lighting, audio, and video systems and manage all stage setups. In collaboration with the front of house team, the Manager and production team ensures that the patron experience is exceptional and safe.
The Senior Production Manager serves as the technical lead for major University convocation events, including Commencement events and Opening Exercises, in multiple indoor and outdoor spaces. The Manager oversees the convocation technical team, consisting of staff from Performing Arts Services, Instructional Support Services, Facilities, and the Department of Music, as well as external contractors and vendors, coordinating staging, lighting, audio, and video support. The Manager develops technical plans and supervises production schedules, logistical planning, setups and testing, and technical operations during the events.
The Senior Production Manager and team provide support for student groups and departments in theaters across campus. The Senior Production Manager supervises the Production Manager of the Frist Theater, helping develop strategic plans for the technical capabilities and operational support in a theater dedicated for student productions. At Taplin Auditorium, the Senior Production Manager’s team provides supplemental stage support for events primarily presented by the Department of Music. At the Lewis Arts complex, the Manager and team provide supplemental technical support in theaters, rehearsal spaces, and a forum space, supporting the Lewis Center for the Arts and the Department of Music. The Manager assists the Residential Colleges, providing consultation, maintenance, and logistical support, in their respective performance spaces.
The Senior Production Manager is responsible for the hiring, training, and management of the Performing Arts Services production team, which includes the Frist Theater Production Manager, Audio Engineer, Theater Operations Technicians, student workers, and external contractors. The Manager helps develop the technical skills of the team, creates work assignments, and oversees payroll. The Manager also collaborates with campus partners to help assemble and train student production teams, who will support student group performances.
The Senior Production Manager advises professional and student production designers, administrators, and event presenters on the technical capabilities and creative possibilities of theaters and event spaces. The Manager also provides consultation on the development and renovation of spaces.
The Senior Production Manager is responsible for monitoring and maintaining the condition and inventory of the equipment at Richardson Auditorium, arranging for preventive maintenance, repair, and replacement, with fiscal responsibility. The Manager is responsible for developing a strategic plan for equipment purchases and upgrades in Richardson Auditorium and the Frist Theater.
The Senior Production Manager annually develops emergency procedure plans and reviews OSHA requirements and best practices with Facilities, Public Safety, Site Protection, and Environmental Health and Safety. The Manager assists Environmental Health and Safety with safety training for staff and student workers.
The Senior Production Manager takes a leadership role in establishing a collaborative environment that is supportive, professional, creative, efficient, and safe. The Manager is capable of serving in a variety of roles, depending on the needs of the presenters, and can support conventional and non-conventional venues and outdoor spaces. The Manager fosters excellent relationships with campus partners, external clients, and vendors, to provide exceptional service for the University community.

Provides technical leadership, support, and consultation for venues and performances throughout the campus
Provides oversight of Frist Theater technical operations
Provides strategic planning for the production equipment in Frist Theater
Provides strategic planning and consultation for student groups, internal and external event presenters, and campus planners
Collaborates with Department of Music on technical support for Taplin Auditorium
Provides assistance and consultation in theaters across campus, including Residential College theaters and outdoor spaces
Provides supplemental operational support

The Senior Production Manager must be flexible and adept at problem solving. The Manager must interact effectively with individuals at all levels within and outside the University, possessing good judgment and discretion. The Manager must provide an exceptional level of customer service.
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
Minimum three years experience in performing arts operations, or comparable experience
Professional technical skills, including working capabilities with lights, sound, video, and staging
Demonstrated focus and expertise in at least one of the technical areas – lights, sound, or A/V
Willingness and ability to work with a flexible schedule, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, and long hours
Demonstrated management skills
Thorough understanding of all theater operations including:
lighting systems, instruments, and design
audio systems, setup, and design
scenery design and construction
Demonstrated computer skills, including ability to utilize production management software, such as ArtsVision
Excellent communication skills
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
Ability to assist all levels of student, departmental, and external performers and presenters, from professional to novice
Experience working in a University environment
Experience working with students
