Umatilla Electric Cooperative (UEC) is seeking a competent and enthusiastic candidate to assume the senior management position of Manager of Member Services. The Cooperative has retained NRECA’s Executive Search Group to facilitate the search for this important position. UEC (www.umatillaelectric.com) is a stable, rapidly growing, and progressive organization serving 15,000 electric consumer/members located in northeastern Oregon. The utility currently employs 92 professionals and has a geographically diverse service area covering 1,930 square miles. Customer loads include residential, irrigation, commercial and industrial – from agribusiness to data centers. UEC is financially sound with annual revenue of $125 million. The Cooperative is a RUS and CFC borrower. Most of UEC wholesale power is provided by the Bonneville Power Administration and it is a member of the Pacific Northwest Generating Cooperative (i.e., G&T).
The Manager of Member Services is responsible for leading and directing the activities of the Member Services Department; including member and key account relations, community outreach, and public relations programs. They also oversee the planning, development and execution of strategies to promote exceptional member service, member communication, and positive perception of Umatilla Electric Cooperative; consistent with the utility’s strategic mission. The Manager of Member Services has an integral part in the development of the goals and initiatives included in the utility’s strategic plan. Being a team player with ability to develop constructive relationships is very important.
The successful candidate must be a person of very high integrity and have proven leadership skills. Because UEC serves diverse constituencies, candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills (i.e., oral, written), including competencies and experience in marketing, member/customer service, and public speaking, as well as digital and electronic media. A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field is required. Candidates must have a minimum of seven (7) years progressive experience in public relations, marketing, or mass communication. At least eight (8) years of electric utility experience and knowledge is also required. Supervisory experience is a necessity for successful candidates, with senior management background desirable.
Umatilla Electric Cooperative’s headquarters is located in Hermiston, minutes from the shores of the Columbia River. UEC serves a large portion of the picturesque Columbia Basin and Blue Mountain country of Northeastern Oregon. The cooperative’s territory is located west of Boardman in Morrow County and covers much of Umatilla County surrounding the cities of Hermiston and Pendleton and into the Blue Mountains. The Tri-City area of Washington (Richland/Pasco/Kennewick) is located 35 miles north via Interstate-82. Hermiston is a thriving city of 18,000 residents. The area is know for its abundant outdoor recreational activities and opportunities, including trophy hunting and fishing, as well is its proximity to wine country.
