People's Energy Cooperative is a Touchstone Energy® cooperative with nearly 23,000 services in southeast Minnesota. We have an excellent opportunity for a full-time Area Lineworker in our Stewartville Area.
As an Area Lineworker:
Assumes primary responsibility for the care of maintenance of the electric system and service to members in the assigned service area to ensure prompt, professional service is provided and system reliability meets or exceeds standards.
Performs all duties of Lineworker including:
Serves as an ambassador for the Cooperative and assumes ownership and responsibility for the assigned service area and other areas within the Cooperative’s service territory to ensure the promotion of goodwill between the Cooperative, its members, the community and general public.
Accepts service, outage and emergency calls (during and after business hours) and reports as the first responder to investigate, direct and/or perform the necessary work to restore service or address concerns in the assigned service area. The expectation is that the area lineworker will accept an average of fifty percent (50%) of the outage calls in their area over a rolling twelve (12) month period.
Plans and prepares daily work schedules that ensures Cooperative resources (human, materials and equipment) are utilized in effective and efficient manner.
Utilizes the Cooperative’s system maps, interprets staking sheets, understands overhead, underground and special construction specifications, reads circuit and sectionalizing diagrams and is familiar with the proper operation and application of all sectionalizing devices used on the Cooperative’s system to render safe, prompt, efficient and reliable electric service.
Inspects, constructs, operates, upgrades, maintains, and repairs Cooperative underground and overhead transmission and distribution lines, substations and equipment, and apparatuses associated with the Cooperative’s system including, but not limited to tree trimming, transformers, regulators, regulator panels, oil circuit reclosers, auto boosters, capacitors, switch gear, fuse holders, insulators, lightning arresters, AMR/AMI equipment, regulators, and OCR’s to ensure compliance with all RUS/REA specifications, applicable provisions of the National Electrical Safety Code and as detailed in the staking sheets.
Keeps informed of the direction of line feeds as to the source of power to ensure a safe, healthy, and efficient workplace and/or work site.
Uses materials and supplies required for line construction to ensure construction is done according to specifications.
Advises the engineering department of any unsafe conditions where engineering or staking is needed for corrective work to meet regulatory requirements and member and employee expectations.
Keeps supervisors informed of system status, and changes made to system to ensure good communication throughout the department and effective and efficient service to members.
Reconnects and disconnects electric service, reads meters, collects accounts and performs other tasks as requested by the lead area lineworker, crew leader, line superintendent or director of operations.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from vocational/technical school in the power line studies field.
EXPERIENCE: Experience, training, testing and abilities of a qualified journey lineworker.
KNOWLEDGE: Must possess a valid Minnesota’s drivers’ license with the class A CDL endorsement. Required to observe all traffic laws, rules, and regulations in the operation of Cooperative vehicles. Must remain insurable to operate all Cooperative vehicles required for the position.
Use two-way radio and comply with operating practices in its use to assure for safe construction of the electric system.
Understand that considerable hazards exist, including falls, electric shock, electric flash, automobile traffic, and falling objects.
Working knowledge of iPad, computer, and other electronic devices.
