PURPOSE OF POSITION To maintain and construct overhead and underground electric distribution and transmission systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES A. Journeyman Lineman is required to possess or be able to complete the following: a. Line work processes involving safety, first aid, tools, and equipment nomenclature, care and use. b. Work on low voltage energized lines, involving setting single phase and multiphase meters, erection of poles, and use of power equipment, including hydraulic equipment. This will include both overhead and underground construction. c. Hot-line work on single and three-phase lines, involving installation of transformers, arrestors, capacitors, oil circuit reclosers, sectionalizers, and regulators; cover-up equipment; trouble shooting and emergency repairs; and changing of poles, crossarms and insulators; including use of all hot line tools. d. Familiarization with residential and commercial wiring, including power and control wiring; various electrical measuring devices, including basic meters, multiphase meters, and recording meters. e. Work records, involving all records necessary in the completion of member connects, disconnects, meter changes, work orders, and material charge out forms, etc. f. Must be computer literate. g. Climb poles on a daily basis; various heights. h. Must possess a CDL license with air brake and trailer add-ons. i. Excellent conditions for year-round work. Work in all types of weather and during storm conditions, may be asked to work a minimum of 24 hours straight without a sleep break. j. Will be required to respond to an approved percentage of after-hours outage calls. k. Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
WORK CONDITIONS Work will be performed inside and outside; with the outside work involving various weather conditions. A. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit; use hands, arms, and fingers to handle, feel, or reach; climb or balance; smell, talk, and hear. B. Employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. C. The employee must regularly lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. D. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. E. Ability to climb and descend poles of various heights under various weather conditions commonly experienced in this geographic region. F. While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and explosives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Possess an acceptable IBEW or similar acceptable Journeyman Lineman Certificate of Completion. C. Must reside within 15 mile radius of the Bloomington, IL office for central openings or Princeton, IL office for northern region openings. D. Valid Illinois CDL-A. E. CPR certification.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS A. Must be willing and able to work extra and/or irregular hours as the needs of the job may require. B. Must observe all safety rules and regulations adopted by CBEC. C. Must attend schools and conferences as requested by the CBEC management. D. Must be able to travel on a limited basis. Most trips will be limited to a two hundred mile radius of Princeton; occasional other trips in the country. E. Must purchase tools and equipment as specified in the CBEC personnel policy manual.
