Summary of Duties: Under general supervision, the Irrigation Technician II installs, inspects, renovates, and maintains irrigation systems for parks, public grounds, medians, athletic fields and the golf course. Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the advanced classification in the Irrigation Technician series that follows diversified procedures and implements processes to accomplish end results, within guidelines. Incumbent may lead the work activities of others. Marginal Duties: Performs other duties as assigned. Typical Decisions: Incumbent works directly with immediate supervisors assisting to determine proper supplemental irrigation amounts appropriate for each site, priority of repairs as well as the materials and methods used.

Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of: Large area irrigation system and component installation, operation, maintenance and repair; hydraulic calculations; water conservation means and methods, as well as related safety practices and procedures. Skill in: Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing; operating equipment and tools in compliance with safety policies, procedures, and practices; providing effective supervision and leadership to subordinates. Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience: Two (2) years of large municipal or commercial landscape irrigation system experience required. Prior supervisory responsibility and experience is preferred. Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements Licenses and Certifications: Texas Class C driver's license required (must obtain within 30 days of hire per state law). TCEQ Irrigator's License required; Landscape Irrigation Auditor and TCEQ Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester preferred. Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, driver license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions requiring access into Police buildings) and social security number verification check. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in and around City buildings, parks, medians & rights of way, to operate equipment and motor vehicles on terrain and streets; to operate equipment and motor vehicles around bystanders and dense crowds; strength, stamina and mobility to perform light to medium physical work and around machines, and to operate varied hand and power tools and specialized equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, and reach when completing maintenance, repairs, and various daily tasks. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull and pull materials and objects weighing up to 80 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment. Employees work in and around buildings and facilities and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, dust, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes.
