NAHB is seeking an experienced professional in the construction industry to advocate for building codes and standards that protect public health and safety while remaining cost-effective and preserving housing affordability. The Program Manager will represent the association and its members in the development processes for the major building codes and related engineering, architectural, accessibility and/or fire safety standards in the United States.
The position requires preparation written comments in support of NAHB policy resolutions, delivering testimony on behalf of the association, and maintaining professional and positive working relationships with code and standard development committees, building official organizations, allied trade associations, and other industry stakeholders.
Individuals will also work with NAHB’s Construction, Codes & Standards Committee and other NAHB committees and councils to address issues related to building codes, standards and residential construction and provide input on creating or revising NAHB policy resolutions. Duties include preparing meeting materials, reporting on key issues, and working with committee and subcommittee chairs to run meetings and teleconferences.
Other responsibilities include assisting NAHB members and affiliates, association staff, allied associations and others with technical and enforcement issues related to residential construction, codes and standards, writing articles for NAHB newsletters and blogs, developing webinars, and creating other resources to ensure NAHB remains the premier source of information and education on residential construction.
Qualified candidates must be able to review and understand technical details of building codes and design standards, address complex issues concisely and effectively, and offer practical and cost-effective solutions. The position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, good organization, and the ability to work effectively with others. The ideal candidate must have intermediate skills using Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat. Travel to building code hearings, committee meetings, technical workshops, and other industry events is required.
Individuals should have a minimum of five years of experience related to the design, construction, plan review or inspection of single-family homes and/or multi-family buildings and ensuring compliance to building codes and industry standards. Experience in Fire Suppression, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical and/or Fuel Gas is desired. Prior experience in building code development or service on industry standards committees is highly desirable.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in engineering, architecture, construction management, material science or a related field, or the equivalent in education and experience.
