The Community Navigator Manager directs Illinois Legal Aid Online’s (ILAO) Community Navigator Program for communities in Sangamon, Cass, and Macon Counties that are impacted by immigration policies. The Navigator Program promotes an asset-based approach to family stability and community welfare by recognizing the role, talent, and expertise of community members impacted by immigration policies.
The Community Navigator Manager will recruit, train, and support Community Navigators from communities impacted by immigration in Illinois. These Navigators act as community educators and connectors by engaging with members of impacted communities and conducting public educational sessions to provide access to and help with legal self-help information that helps people overcome the collateral consequences of immigration, with the goals of increasing access to the immigration legal system and promoting family reunification, community building, supportive networks, and health and healing. The Community Navigator Manager reports to ILAO’s Director of Strategic Partnerships. This position is located in Springfield, with frequent travel required within Cass and Macon Counties.
This is a full-time, temporary, grant-funded position. The term of the grant runs through 6/30/2020, with the possibility of renewal. Salary for this position is $46,000/year.
What you’ll do:
Recruit 10 Community Navigators from the target communities;
Assist in developing educational curriculum for Navigators;
Plan and schedule Community Navigator training sessions; coordinate scheduling with legal subject matter experts who will participate in trainings for Navigators;
Work with Community Navigators to identify and cultivate community organizations and leaders to be partners, including hosting and promoting ‘know your rights’ sessions;
Assist Community Navigators in scheduling and promoting sessions to meet their goals;
Create and maintain a system to track participation in educational sessions, including surveys and other evaluation;
Maintain Navigator timesheets and monitor and track Community Navigator activities, including contacts they make with community organizations and leaders;
Supervise Community Navigators and provide timely, constructive feedback; support Navigators remotely via email and web conferencing; meet with Navigators in-person and participate in educational sessions as needed;
Meet regularly with the Director of Strategic Partnerships to report on program status.

Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills
Strong public speaking and presentation skills

Demonstrated experience with communities and people impacted by immigration
Experience recruiting, training, and managing staff or volunteers
Experience in community organizing, advocacy, or otherwise working with the public and offering responsive customer service
Superior technology skills including fluency in using the Internet and proficiency in Google Apps
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer
Willing and able to travel to dispersed Illinois communities, and possess a valid Illinois driver's license (owning a car is helpful but not required)
