Professional Certification by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ). Commercial interior design experience including systems furniture specification. Experience using computer aided drafting software such as AutoCAD or Revit. Experience using 2020 CAP or CET furniture specification software. Experience working with staff, faculty and students on higher education and/or governmental projects. Experience designing classrooms, offices spaces, and large room remodels.
The Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) department is seeking candidates for an Interior Designer to serve under the direction and supervision of the Director for Facilities Design and Construction. This position will be filled at either the Interior Designer II or III level.Â
Responsibilities of this position include providing professional interior design and project management services for small to medium sized projects, up to $250,000, to the University community for in-house design projects.Â In addition, this position is responsible for interior design services on small to medium-size capital projects in coordination with external design consultants.Â This position is expected to work on 20-30 projects simultaneously.Â Projects assigned are single office and office suite redesigns, classroom renovations, and laboratory remodels.Â This position advises and consults, prepares project cost estimates, prepares drawings and specifications to communicate and provide instruction.Â Under moderate supervision, acts as primary contact for the small projects assigned.Â Position also provides general project support during all phases of design and construction. Â This position is expected to handle tasks with moderate supervision, with autonomy and ingenuity.Â The ability to document projects and communicate design detail to peers, clients and trade craft personnel is vital.Â Knowledge of detailing, sequence of construction, furniture installation methods and budgeting is required.Â In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the position provides input in developing, updating, documenting and enforcing university interior design standards.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the Interior Designer III position coordinates the work of other interior design staff and student employees for assigned new construction and remodeling projects.Â Assists in developing, updating, documenting and enforcing university interior design standards.Â Assists in developing, updating, and supporting FP&M strategic planning initiatives and the Universityâs mission. Also, the Interior Designer III, will be responsible for medium to large-sized projects and work on 20-40 projects simultaneously. Will act as the primary contact for projects assigned, have minimal supervision, with more autonomy and a greater degree of ingenuity.
This position requires the ability to communicate and work with university clients, professional consultants and contractors.Â Must have tact and good negotiation skills to maintain positive client and workplace relations.Â Must have strong organizational and analytical skills, including the ability to organize and coordinate work within projects.
Professional Certification by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) is required at the Interior Designer III level.
The Interior Designer II is a pay grade 33.
The Interior Designer III is a pay grade 34.
