Heartland Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Heartland) is an innovative electric cooperative that is focused creating value for its consumer-members for the next 80 years by completing projects that will increase electric reliability and improve efficiencies at the cooperative.
Being a mid-sized electric cooperative, our electric systems staff is asked to do many tasks. This position will help build the next generation electric system and requires an individual who is curious, innovative, self-driven, and highly motivated. No two days will be the same at Heartland.
You will be tasked with overseeing the design and field staking of new power lines, system upgrades for new-to-replace-old projects, meet with new customers to design the new services, and also maintain the electronic maps of the cooperative in its geographic information system (GIS). All these together will allow Heartland to continue to provide its consumer members with affordable, reliable service.
Some of the responsibilities you will have at the cooperative:
Design, estimate, and stake all new services & system improvement projects
Schedule and keep appointments with consumer-members for new construction, upgrading or conversions of facilities, and relocation or removal of existing facilities.
Complete field reviews of projects in progress to verify design and construction standards are followed.
Develop new best practices to simplify the process of designing of new power lines.
Operate the staking software and data processing equipment as needed to draft staking sheets and produce material pick list for construction projects.
Maintain, correct, and update distribution system circuit diagram and maps using the cooperative’s geographic information system (GIS).
Consult with developers to provide for mutually agreeable conditions for the installation of electric facilities in areas to be developed. Coordinate the installation of facilities with other utilities.
Ensure that all system construction is done in accordance with RUS and NESC standards
Work continually towards self-development to maintain professional and technical knowledge.
3-5 years of experience with electric line design preferred, or applicable experience in surveying and/or drafting. Must have and maintain a valid Kansas drivers license. High school diploma or equivalent required. Two-year electrical or engineering degree is desirable.
