We are currently seeking qualified candidates passionate about fostering a positive work environment for the full-time position of Director of Human Resources and Payroll. This position reports to the Chief of Staff, and is responsible for providing leadership in all areas related to human resources for staff.
Essential duties of the position include, but are not limited to: provide advice and counsel to supervisors and employees regarding a wide range of human resource issues such as recruitment, employment, benefits, compensation, disciplinary procedures, performance management, and staff training and development; coordinate the recruitment of all appointed staff including screening application materials, interviewing candidates, and providing candidates with information regarding the position; provide guidance and interpretation of university policies and procedures to campus administration, supervisors, and employees; ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations regarding employment and wage and hour laws; supervise the payroll operation to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures, as well as federal and state payroll laws and regulations; direct the processes required for classification / reclassification of all appointed staff positions; provide information to academic and staff employees regarding benefits; provide new employee orientation, and coordinate training and development programs in conjunction with IU Human Resources for staff on campus; assist campus leadership with salary administration for all staff employees; promote and foster a culture of respect, integrity, and community that values diverse viewpoints and perspectives; serve as the liaison for the Kokomo campus to IU Human Resources regarding HR initiatives and projects; supervise the planning and execution of campus events including employee celebrations and recognition ceremonies.
Bachelor's degree and five years of progressively responsible human resources or related experience influencing a wide variety of internal stakeholders.
Combinations of education and related experience may be considered.
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively using a variety of mediums. Effective leadership skills including ability to inspire and develop staff, lead and manage others, build and manage effective teams, and ability to coach and deliver constructive feedback. Ability to interact effectively with administration, staff, and faculty. Demonstrated working knowledge of employment law. Experience with employee relations, comprehensive benefit programs, computerized human resource information systems, classification and compensation structures, and payroll management. Ability to work independently.
Master's degree in a related field. Experience in higher education. HRCI and/or SHRM certification.
