Ames Laboratory is seeking an Assistant Plant Engineer (Engineer Designer II) within the Facilities and Engineering Services (FES) department.Â Ames Laboratory is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) funded National Laboratory operated through a contractual agreement with Iowa State University (ISU).
The Assistant Plant Engineer assists the Manager of Facilities and Engineering Services (FES) and the Plant Engineer in the operations and maintenance of thirteen (13) federal buildings located on the campus of Iowa State University (approx. 340,000 square feet).Â The Assistant Plant Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering consulting services, managing facilities related programs, and managing facilities and infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability
to work with Ames Laboratory staff as well as external contractors. The candidate will also possess
strong tact and maintain positive client and workplace relations. As problems arise, this individual will need to quickly identify beneficial solutions, so problem-solving and troubleshooting skills are advantageous. Strong organizational and analytical skills, including the ability to organize and coordinate work within various programs and projects is essential for success in this position.
