The position of Performance Assistant is part of the Technical Department at Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music and is a key contributor responsible for mitigating overtime hours and filling in for fulltime workers during vacation, sick time, and other requested time off. This position entails knowledge of multiple technical theater skills or demonstrated ability to learn the skills required quickly. Reporting directly to the Director of Technical Operations, the position of Performance Assistant is an as needed, on call position, and the candidate must be able to work with the full time staff as seamlessly as possible.
In addition to covering for full time employees, Performance Assistants will be asked to fill in when more than the full time staff are needed to work events. Performance Assistants must be able to provide technical assistance for concerts, recitals, and productions as needed. Performance Assistants provide specialized technical knowledge in the form of, but not limited to, lighting, sound, recording, stage management, and scene shop construction. Not all Performance Assistants are experts in all fields but a cursory knowledge in all fields is required.

Experience working on the performance stage is strongly preferred
Working with classical musicians is preferred
