The University of Michigan is looking for an experienced and qualified cabinet maker with experience in commercial cabinet making, custom woodworking, and solid surface fabrications. Architecture, Engineering, and Construction endeavors to provide outstanding customer service and is committed to completing projects on time, within budget, and in a safe manner. We manage projects of all sizes from new buildings to additions, renovations, alterations and cosmetic improvements. We also provide specialty services such as painting, alterations, signage, cabinetry, shelving, signs, furniture repair and upholstery and more.
Lay out, cut, shape, and assemble components for various wood, plastic laminate, and composition structures and sub-assemblies using both powered and hand tools.
Fabricate countertops using plastic laminate, wood products, and solid surface material.
Fabricate and assemble complex items using plastic laminates, wood veneers, metals, glass, and solid surface materials.
Mill rough lumber to its final dimension and profile utilizing power machinery including straight line rip saw, profimat milling machine, and planer.
Operate all tools and machinery associated with woodworking including CNC machines, panel saws, edge banders, power saws, and joinery machines.
Organize and sort parts in preparation for assembly.
Assemble prepared components for various structures, including chairs, desks, cabinets, bookcases. Picture frames and paneled doors.
Prepare final structures for finish application by planning, shaping, and sanding using both hand and power operated tools.
Install all required hardware including hinges, lock units, pulls, drawer slides, and custom casework hardware.
Setup, adjust, and perform minor repairs on carpentry equipment and maintain and clean tools and work area.
Repair and clean furniture for refinishing including the fabrication of new parts that are beyond repair.
Repair and or rework existing casework, woodwork, and solid surface applications.
Keep track of all material and production labor used throughout the fabrication process.
Maintain a safe working environment by cleaning and disposing of materials as required.
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks depending on timelines.
Graduation from high school.
5 years of experience in cabinet making and commercial woodwork applications.
Experienced with programming and machining products utilizing CNC technology.
Reasonable experience /knowledge of the tools, equipment, methods and materials involved in the fabrication, modification, installation, and repair of cabinets, furniture, doors, woodwork, and solid surface applications.
Experienced with solid surface fabrications including countertops, integral back/side splashes, and integral sink applications.
Experienced with wood veneer fabrication methods including how to match veneer, install veneer, and repair veneer applications.
Ability to construct and assemble cabinet components, making sure that all pieces fit the dimensions specified by the supervisor or the client.
Ability to alter or repair existing casework and woodwork as designated by project scope of work.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches and job related specifications.
Ability to accurately field measure a jobsite for material ordering and fabrication purposes.
Collect all material and equipment needed to begin and finish the fabrication scope of work.
Must be capable of lifting and handling a variety of sheet good materials.
Must be capable of working alone or as part of a group.
Attention to detail and efficient work habits are essential.
Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate with clients, colleagues and supervision.
Must be able to perform all duties within the classification, with or without a reasonable accomodation.
6-10 years of experience in cabinet making and commercial woodwork applications.
5 years of experience with programming and machining products utilizing CNC technology.
5 years of experience with maintaining CNC equipment, digital saws, and edge banding equipment.
Experience working with an automated work order system.
Knowledge of Google software, smart phone technology, tablet technology, and desktop and laptop computers.
Experience with maintaining CNC equipment, digital saws, and edge banding equipment.
Setup, adjust, and perform minor repairs on shop equipment and maintain and clean tools and work area.
Solid understanding of quality control principles.
Ability to operate a forklift.
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:15 PM, Monday-Friday
