Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking multiple Operating Engineer III’s for the University Facilities and Capital Planning Department of Central Administration.
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Maintenance & Construction, the Operating Engineer operates, maintains and repairs the stationary steam boilers and auxiliary equipment in Central Campus Power Plant.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of boilers, turbines, motors, pumps, compressors, blowers, valves and other auxiliary equipment
Operates the Power Plant at maximum efficiency at all times, resulting in minimum energy consumption
Periodically makes comprehensive tests, takes readings of fuel consumption pressure, draft conditions, temperatures, steam flow and other recordings
Adds chemicals to treat steam, water, fuel in accordance with requirements prescribed
Ensures compliance with all regulations
Makes continual inspections of equipment and systems in area of responsibility and reports conditions to the Manager of Engineering
Must be available for all Power Plant Emergencies
Minimum Education and Experience:
A minimum of one year (1) of experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of stationary steam boilers, and auxiliary equipment of a high pressure Power Plant
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
A Valid driver's license is required
Must posses a New Jersey Blue Seal License
The position requires the individual to perform tasks under wet or humid conditions and in extreme heat when working on boilers or pumps in all areas where there may also be fumes or smoke. The worker is trained in the use of Personal Protective Equipment that is made available as needed, neoprene, insulated, waterproof, electrical and other types of gloves, neoprene aprons, full face masks and goggles for eyes protection, hearing protection, hard hats, coveralls, etc.
