People’s Energy Cooperative invites applications for the position of System Engineer and Staking Supervisor with reporting responsibilities directly to the Director of Engineering. People’s Energy Cooperative is located in Oronoco in southeastern Minnesota, and provides electricity to over 24,000 members in six counties.
The following general description is intended to indicate the kinds of tasks and levels of work difficulty required of the position and shall not be construed as declaring what the specific duties and responsibilities of the position shall be and is not intended to limit the responsibilities of the position.
Monitors and analyzes the electric distribution system loading and reliability data at the service site, subdivision, distribution feeder, and substation level to help meet the goals and objectives of the Cooperative.
Manages the workload within the engineering department including technical projects, work orders related to new system construction, new service installation, member orders, service retirements and system improvements.
Defines transformer sizes (service site and substation), protection device size, type, location and coordination, size and placement of system capacitors and voltage regulators, and phase connections for load balancing.
Provides technical support services to the engineering, operations and other departments and provides supervision, guidance and support to the staking/field engineers.
A bachelor degree in electrical or mechanical engineering (Power System option).
Licensed Professional engineer or EIT certified, capable of obtaining a Minnesota license
Minimum of three years’ experience working for an electrical utility is required.
Knowledgeable of Rural Utilities Service specifications and assemblies, National Electric Safety Code, electrical system construction practices, and power requirements analysis.
Previous work experience at a cooperative distribution system would be helpful.

Must have the physical ability to work inside an office environment and set at a desk to handle various computer work and talk with the general public, members, and co-workers.
Must be physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and walk on various terrain.
Must have a high level of math skills and be able to perform financial and engineering calculations.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management, employees, members and others and work as part of a team.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Must be able to work independently and have leadership abilities.
Must be able to read, write and speak English with strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Must have strong problem solving and decision making skills to identify, anticipate and resolve problems.
Must have a high level of grammar, spelling and proofreading capabilities.
Must be organized, detail oriented and able to meet project deadlines with the ability to manage multiple projects with varying scopes and timelines.
