JOBSUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the AssistantDirector of Education for Simulated/Standardized Patients (SPs), the SP Trainerassists in developing, training, coordinating, and monitoring learningactivities involving SPs within the Simulation Center- CHIPS. This positioncreates and delivers training materials to SPs. The SP ensures that SPs can:authentically portray patient/family members, provide constructive verbal andwritten feedback to learners, and accurately assess learner communicationskills using the faculty generated global communication skills rubric.
Assists in developing, managing, coordinating and monitoring of educational activities utilizing SPs and Event Proctors.
Trains a pool of SPs in aspects of case portrayal (delivering details, physical simulation, affect, and realism) recognition of criteria for physical exam maneuvers through trainer simulation, case materials and medical matters including issues of bodily functions, sexual matters, psychological issues, etc.
Ensures SPs can provide constructive verbal and written feedback to learners and accurately assess learners using the communication skills rubric; use of internal software programs and compliance with documentation standards.
Observes SPs across sites (live/by video) for quality assurance purposes and recommends intervention, re-training or removal of an SP as needed to maintain standardization.
Assists in conducting evaluations for each SP by giving on-going feedback, remediates performance based on input from stakeholders and personal observation, writes and communicates assessments of training interactions to Director(s), accumulates data for evaluations of SPs.
Assists in ensuring appropriate use of best practices in SP methodology.
Participates in Faculty development projects teaching best practices for training SPs.
Identifies and recruits appropriate individuals to serve as SPs, auditions and interviews candidates, orients SPs and Event Proctors on policies and procedures of the program.
Compiles and maintains a database of SPs; screens and matches SPs to case scenarios, displays understanding of the training level, ability, and limitations (physical or skill based) of each SP in order to appropriately place them in simulation activities.
Maintains a database of case scenarios, training materials and assessment tools including tracking updates, making suggestions/corrections after consultation with faculty, and disseminates materials to SPs and staff.
Coordinates scheduling and communication with Faculty, SPs and Event Proctors; serves as the primary point of contact after-hours for SP/Event Proctor on urgent changes; monitors and documents scheduling changes including materials/correspondences affected by changes; serves as emergency backup SP.
