OSP Compliance Technicians inspect, evaluate, and analyze aerial and underground facilities for compliance with applicable internal and external safety and regulatory standards. This role provides occasional repair guidance and suggestions, contribute to the entry and maintenance of an asset compliance management database systems and work with others to ensure compliance. OSP Compliance Technicians understand and apply Cox Communications construction standards, as well as applicable asset owner, state, and federal standards. They monitor and maintain inspections schedules and provide quality assurance of vendor performance on compliance repairs as directed. Compliance employees ensure that the COX network is built in a safe manner throughout the system and when working on correcting infractions that safety and cost reduction are key.
May ride with pole owners or ride along with Power Company & Engineering Company – reviewing engineering suggestions for pole change outs and plant adjustments.
Conducts assessments and provides recommendations, may work with others on recommendations looking for a reasonable and economical solution that will result in COX being in compliance with the lowest cost in mind.
Verify invoicing will be verified as correct for work performed, charges made for the work performed.
Inspects Outside Plant based on applicable schedules
Understands applicable Cox, State, NESC standards and regulations
Understands high-risk geographic regions and driving factors
Assigns infractions with relevant level of severity
Enters information into the database
May review make ready work with contractors
May issue work to construction contractors
May coordinate the Cox Service Drop conversions – getting off jump poles (if so desired) or other poles where clearances cannot be met to remove a violation.
May order parts
May inspect and QC’s Contractor work
May support our OSP Construction Crew Members
Coordinates contract labor for construction projects and inspects final work.
May participates in the construction and /or repair of fiber, coax, and copper plant for networks. May coordinate and inspect work done by contract labor.
May constructs new and rebuilds aerial hardware including strand placement, tensioning, grounding, bonding, guy and anchor installation. Assures grounds are at or below maximum allowable resistance for proper network protection
Completes as-built mapping
HS diploma, GED or relevant work experience
2 or more year of experience in related field (e.g. OSP Construction; Field Ops)
Valid driver’s license meeting Cox standards
Must be able to walk in un-level areas and for long distances. May be on your feet for several hours while performing duties for extended periods.
Ability to read and understand printed and digital telecommunication utility maps.
Ability to operate computer with Microsoft applications as well as other as needed software related to construction services.
Knowledge of Telecommunications aerial and underground construction practices.
Understanding of NESC, State, and or local codes that pertain to utility construction.
Must be able to move in a pulling force at least 75 – 100lbs.
3 to 5 years general knowledge of aerial and underground telecommunications facilities construction, as well as basic understanding of both RF and fiber design.
Basic knowledge of construction standards and applicable codes for the area.
Detail oriented and ability to work with others in to benefit COX on all inspections, audits and reviews.
Understand the principles on how to use O-Cal Pro.
