CURRENT OPPORTUNITY: Corporate Controller
The primary role of the Corporate Controller is to manage the accounting department, including timely and accurately reporting on all aspects of the business. Additionally, they are responsible for oversight of the cost and billing staff, ensuring that there is proper training and development of the department staff as well as the operational staff they work with.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Financial Accounting, overseeing staff responsible for monthly financial statement preparation and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
Monthly review and update to project level profit projections and work in progress schedule.
Support other departments as needed by providing financial information for proposals, prequalification, etc.
Support the development of annual budgets and cost allocation rates for all companies.
Oversee cost and billing accountants and act as a resource for their training and development
Ensure timely billings and collections efforts.
Review and approve project level cost reports before they are published to ensure consistent work product.
Coordinate time charged by all accounting department to projects where possible.
Act as a Viewpoint subject matter expert for cost and billing accounting functions.
Oversee Accounts Payable manager, ensuring coordination between A/P and Cost accounting groups to meet project needs.
Support A/P manager in resolving IRS levies, lien or bond claims or subcontractor defaults.
Support subcontractor prequalification efforts by assisting prequalification manager as needed.
Administer bond in lieu of retainage on projects where it is allowed.
Oversee State of CT sales tax audit and any other state audits if they arise.
Draft quarterly tax planning schedules in coordination with CFO and tax advisor.
Support the overall relationship with banking partners as well as investment advisor.
BS in Accounting and 5+ years of accounting management experience;
Commercial Construction experience a must;
Knowledge of construction operations and financials such as owner and sub billings;
Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite and industry specific accounting software;
Strong technical accounting expertise. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and commissions;
Experience managing a small team;
Proactive, resourceful, highly organized;
Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail;
Strong interpersonal and management skills;
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
