Job Title: Middle School Choral Instructor
Division: Middle School
Reports to: Head of Middle School and Director of Performing Arts
Summary: King seeks a Middle School Choral Instructor to teach choir classes and conduct rehearsals for grades 6-8, adhering to changing COVID guidelines. This may entail a combination of face-to-face, remote/virtual, and hybrid classroom environments.
Primary responsibilitiesinclude, but are not limited to:
Teach choir classes and rehearsals for grades 6-8, adhering to new COVID guidelines. This includes one class per grade level, which meets five times over a ten day cycle. Classes would meet 3 times one week and 2 times another.
Plan and implement a developmentally-appropriate choral curriculum that adheres to current COVID regulations. This includes instructing on and exploring musical traditions and experiences representing a wide range of cultures.
Program two concerts a year with a varied and diverse repertoire. Concerts in 2020-21 will be adapted to changing COVID guidelines.
Teach in a virtual/online, face-to-face, and hybrid environment.
Work closely with the Director of Performing Arts on repertoire and programming.
Attend all required department and division meetings.
Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
Complete other duties including but not limited to facilitating advisory groups and clubs, and other activities as determined by the Head of Middle School and Director of Performing Arts.
Minimum bachelor’s degree in music or music education.
Demonstrated ability in working with and understanding the changing adolescent voice, particularly the Middle School years.
Basic Piano accompaniment skills.
Experience using various music technologies including but not limited to Noteflight, Soundtrap, and SmartMusic.
Possess a sound understanding of the intellectual and social-emotional developmental stages of adolescents.
Ability and capacity to nurture student discovery and skill development.
Capacity to teach and develop culturally responsive professional practices.
Cross-cultural competency, ability to communicate, work, teach and learn in an inclusive manner is a diverse community of students and staffulty.
Superb organizational skills and ability to manage a series of student information platforms and systems, including Google Classroom, Gmail.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to constructively collaborate with colleagues.
