Vocational school graduation in Architectural/Building Trades/CAD or closely related field and four years of architectural drafting experience which includes computer assisted design, or combination of higher education in architecture/computer assisted design and work experience equal to six years.
Computer skills including the ability to perform computer assisted drafting involving a high degree of technical skill in the preparation of complete drawings and database, word processing and/or spreadsheet applications as determined by the department.
Highly developed organizational skill and knowledge of AIA systems of filing.
Ability to deal with wide range of complex professional, technical and project manager related tasks where frequent independent interpretation and decision is required.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, contractors and the general public.
Ability to read Architectural, Electrical, Plumbing and Civil plans and details.
Ability to work across platforms and have a strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and the Adobe Design Suite package.
About the Opportunity:
The Physical Plant department is responsible for the operations and maintenance, renovations and construction of all buildings, grounds and utilities of Plymouth State University. These services are provided to develop and maintain a functional, attractive and safe environment conducive to learning and to support the University's tradition of excellence. The Physical Plant department has dedicated, professional staff trained in every principle trade required to provide these services and/or to oversee contracted services that the department does not directly provide.
The Architectural Drafting Specialist reports to the Manager of Building Maintenance & Construction and provides technical support to the campus community and public regarding the buildings, grounds and utility systems that make up the Plymouth State University campus. The Architectural Drafting Specialist will be responsible for creating accurate documentation to include CAD drawings and layouts; campus property reports for area, capacity, and usage; build and manage the university’s materials and construction standards; develop and install exterior and interior signage; as well as provide special project management as assigned in liaison with departments and/or with the town of Plymouth on university facilities and ground issues.
The successful candidate will have considerable architectural drafting experience with complex facilities. Must be detail oriented and have excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization and planning, prioritization, problem solving, follow through, time management, and oral & written communication skills. Also, must be flexible and possess the ability to successfully handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and work well under pressure, independently, and in a team-oriented environment.
