Equipment Operator

Job Knowledge, Education and Training: High School graduate or equivalent with at least 6 years' experience in equipment operation. Must be able to learn and apply information from technical manuals in the completion of duties. Must be able to complete reports and other paperwork and should be able to perform mathematical calculations. Must acquire a knowledge of construction, maintenance and service of electric distribution facilities within a reasonable time span. Will work primarily with motorized equipment. Must learn and practice Cooperative's Safety Rules and procedures. Must learn RUS Materials and the National Electrical Safety Code®. Must be or become certified in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Abilities and Skills: Must be able to learn to operate assigned equipment including bucket trucks, digger trucks, lift trucks, trenchers, winches, drills, air compressors, high compression tools, backhoes, welders, dozers, and other heavy equipment as necessary while maintaining a supply of materials for each. Will service equipment and keep equipment clean. Must possess good interpersonal skills including the ability to maintain a harmonious relationship with all cooperative personnel and the members. Must possess oral and written communication skills in the English language. Must be able to communicate via satellite radio. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and be insurable with the Cooperative's insurance carrier. Must hold a Class "A" Interstate CDL. Frequently moves and/or carries materials and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds. Occasionally moves and/or carries items that weigh up to 100 pounds. Shovels dirt, works around noisy equipment and visually inspects work for safe conditions. Must be able to clear right-of-way according to RUS requirements and Cooperative policies. Must be able to organize work and calendar to schedule the needs of projects system wide. Become familiar with TxDOT rules and regulations to haul heavy equipment and loads. Working Conditions: Activities are performed primarily from motorized vehicle and occasionally on or around energized lines and de-energized lines. Non-exempt position. Irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime is required. Must be able to work during emergencies. Must be able to work under adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat or cold, high winds or stormy conditions. To ensure all employees are drug and alcohol free, pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable cause and random drug and alcohol tests are conducted in compliance with Department of Transportation regulations.
