Perform skilled work at an advanced journey level in the installation, operation, maintenance, service and repair of complex chiller systems. Work is subject to inspection for conformance to specifications and accepted standards of the trade, but is primarily reviewed through observation of results. Functional contacts include coworkers, other service department employees and administrative personnel at the job locations, university staff, students and building occupants.
? Direct and perform preventative maintenance and overhauls on complex types of absorption, centrifugal, and reciprocating chiller equipment, buy and install refrigerant as well as moving, rigging, and handling heavy and expensive components and parts safely. Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair for control systems, variable speed drives (VFD), and VFD cooling systems related to chillers.
? Design and construct specialized tools and equipment to repair and maintain all types of chillers.
? Operate absorption, centrifugal, screw, and reciprocating chiller systems. Operate the campus chilled water loop control system, including sequencing of chillers, make-up and pressure control, and chiller performance monitoring. Optimize chiller equipment performance to achieve the highest efficiency possible.
? Evaluate complex factors and malfunctions in absorption, centrifugal, and reciprocating chiller systems and take corrective actions and assist with the training of Chiller Technician I and II positions.
? Clean, maintain, safely operate and properly store all tools and equipment. Follow all safety policies and procedures.
? Prepare records, detailed reports, recommendations, cost estimates, prepare material orders, and similar information for supervisory and management use.
? Perform other duties as assigned.
? A high school graduate or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities can be acquired is necessary. ? Documented five years of experience working as a journey level with large chiller systems over 500 tons, including steam absorption chillers and electric centrifugal chillers with variable speed drives, is required. ? Universal refrigerant certification as required by state and federal laws and course work in large chiller systems. ? Skill in use and operation of tools, equipment and materials necessary to complete the essential functions of the job. ? Ability to read blueprints, drawings, schematics and wiring diagrams and knowledge of building codes are required. ? A valid driver's license to operate a vehicle in the state of Missouri is required. ? Ability to grasp, lift, carry and set down heavy objects (75 lbs.) on a regular basis. ? Ability to climb and work from ladders, scaffolding and staging on an occasional basis.
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
