The Utility Accountant maintains accurate accounting of accounts payable, cash disbursements, work orders, miscellaneous accounting and fixed assets to enable processing financial statements
Full cycle of accounts payable activities including organizing and keying invoices for payment, management of invoice approval workflows, filing in electronic libraries and preparing multiple weekly check runs.
Examine records for accuracy and ensure proper approval is attained.
Accurate and timely payment of all expenses incurred by OTEC, including Accounts Payable and Consumer Refunds.
Bill and track yearly minimum irrigation contracts, subdivision billings, other accounts receivable for pole contacts, work order billings, permits and sanctions. Post ACH payments and insufficient funds.
Maintain and balance detailed journals and accounts with record management of cash posting, credit cards, e-checks, kiosks, and bank accounts.
Assist in month-end closing of books to process financial statements.
Maintain and balance records of investment and retirement work orders and projects, closing to continuing property records. Includes periodic assessment and audit of obsolete and damaged general plant for disposal and removal from plant recommendation.
Prepare federal, state and local tax reports for payment.
Maintain vehicle mileage and maintenance records.
Backup for payroll and month-end closing.
Audit and close construction, retirement and general plant work orders and projects and maintain aid to construction and process related refunds.
Participation in cooperative strategy and initiatives
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of Accounting/Financial related work experience or bachelor’s degree in accounting/ related field
Experience working with a utility preferred
High school diploma or equivalent
Possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license
