Analyzes blue prints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for new construction, renovation, or remodeling projects. Plan, execute and inspect construction and renovation projects.
1. Reviews data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized estimates. 2. Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors, and determining cost effectiveness. 3. Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions. 4. Acts as a liaison among university departments, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. 5. Confers with Skilled Trades Supervisors in order to arrange time and effort estimates for completion of tasks. 6. When necessary, deliver materials to job site. 7. Ensure customer satisfaction by conducting follow-up assessment and maintaining contact throughout project. 8. Tracks time and cost of individual projects including labor and materials and ensure all projects meet budget guidelines and state, university and departmental procurement policies and procedures. 9. Review construction and renovation plans for completeness and consistency with MSU standards. 10. Requisition materials as needed in order to accomplish assigned task. 11. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: Five (5) years - Experience in building construction and maintenance.
Substitutions: An equivalent combination of related education and related experience may be considered for this position.
1. Demonstrated ability and understanding of the complexities of large scale automated information systems, as well as personal computer applications. 2. Trained and accredited asbestos professional 3. Two years of related post-secondary training or education in drafting and design or construction or engineering technology, 4. Experience in AutoCad as well as Microsoft Office suite. 5. Experience managing contracts with vendors, to include but not limited to, contractors, architects, engineers, interior designers, environmental and air quality services, building maintenance and repair, painting, carpeting and flooring. 6. 10 years of experience in building construction and maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Basic data entry and/or word processing skills. 2. Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers. 3. Records maintenance skills. 4. Knowledge of procurement and purchasing policies and procedures. 5. Knowledge of university accounting and invoicing procedures involving procurement. 6. Ability to perform simple accounting procedures. 7. Ability to analyze and solve problems. 8. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 9. Ability to read blueprints, estimate, plan, execute and inspect construction/renovation projects. 10. Knowledge of building construction practices and codes.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
1. Work involves exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. 2. Requires handling of medium-weight objects up to 40 lbs. on a regular basis and on occasion up to 75 lbs. 3. Work environment involves exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
