Organization’s Purpose Based in Southwest Atlanta, First Tee - Metro Atlanta enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. The chapter focuses on helping kids develop their character, resilience, self-confidence, and inner strength. Through its various programming channels, the organization uses golf to empower this growth while enabling kids to learn and play the game. First Tee - Metro Atlanta was licensed in 1999 as a chapter of First Tee, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, youth development organization. First Tee was founded in 1997 through a partnership involving the Ladies Professional Golf Association, the Masters Tournament, the Professional Golfers’ Association of America, the PGA TOUR, and the United States Golf Association (USGA). John A White Park Golf Course, a 9-hole, municipal, par 35 course is home to First Tee - Metro Atlanta. The organization is seeking a course Superintendent to join its operations staff
Position Summary Reporting to the Director of Golf & Course Operations, the Superintendent is responsible for managing the labor, time, materials and financial resources needed to care for the turf and landscaped grounds of John A. White Park Golf Course. The successful candidate will be a “hands-on” Superintendent, actively working alongside their team of groundskeepers to care for the facility as required.
Direct Reports 6 Groundskeepers ( 3 Full-Time; 3 Part-Time)
Duties and Responsibilities ? Assess the condition of the golf course and determine personnel, equipment, and material requirements related to golf course maintenance on a short-term and long-term basis. ? Direct and assist the maintenance staff in turf care (planting, cutting, spraying, etc.), pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs and clearing drains. ? Oversee and participate in application and recording of chemical applications on golf course grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. ? Oversee maintenance of irrigation system and accuracy of irrigation system records/maps. ? Manage prudent use of water for irrigation purposes and produce monthly consumption reports. ? Recruit, supervise and retain maintenance staff employees. ? Conduct employee performance evaluations and exercise disciplinary action as needed. ? Provide technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that work activity is within OSHA, state, federal and First Tee - Metro Atlanta standards/guidelines for safe working conditions. ? Oversee maintenance of mechanical and power equipment. ? Develop annual operating budget and plans for course maintenance including equipment. ? Develop plans and budgets for capital improvement projects. ? Supervise and control all maintenance expenses associated with golf course operations, including payroll, supplies, equipment, water consumption, chemicals, fertilizers, etc. ? Prepare orders for equipment, supplies, chemicals, etc as needed. ? Oversee upkeep of maintenance shed and fixtures. ? Support short and long-term planning that is both strategic and operational in nature. ? Be an ambassador for the First Tee - Metro Atlanta brand. Required Qualifications ? At least 2 years’ experience in the golf course superintendent field; either as a Superintendent or assistant. ? Skilled in the care of bent grass greens and bermuda and zoysia turf on fairways, roughs and tees. ? Skilled in the safe use, mixing and application of chemicals (including fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides) and other products on greens, tees, fairways and roughs. ? A Commercial Applicator License (State of Georgia) ? Experienced in operating standard equipment and tools used in golf course construction and maintenance work. ? Knowledgeable of the game of golf, golf rules and methods of play. ? Good fiscal management skills. ? Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
Organization, time management, team building and collaboration skills. ? Skilled in recruiting, supervising, training, monitoring, evaluating and motivating personnel. ? Ability to develop work schedules, produce time reports, conduct performance evaluations and exercise disciplinary action. ? Proficient using productivity software such as Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications. ? Valid driver's license. ? Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. ? Adherence to the standards of conduct and values established by First Tee.
Other Qualifications ? Certification or the ability to achieve certification from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. ? Must be able to pass a SafeSport background check and online training module. ? Must be able to pass a drug test.
