The Anderson Valley Unified School District is seeking a highly qualified full-time educational leader who will guide and foster vision and leadership in our school community over many years and bring a wealth of experience in educational programs, fiscal management, collaboration, and communication to the role of District Superintendent of Schools. The current superintendent is retiring after three years of exceptional service.
Professional Experience and Preparation
California Administrative Services Credential
Significant administrative or executive level experience that includes the supervision and administration of financial activities
Possess, or obtain upon employment, a valid California Driver License
Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties safely and effectively
Personal Characteristics, Skills and Abilities
Candidates must be knowledgeable of the intricacies of running a small, rural public school district, be approachable and have the ability to prioritize needs while listening to and engaging others;
Honesty, integrity, self-motivation, and a high moral character are the foundations of this position;
Collaborative, innovative and creative leader who has the skills to navigate budget restrictions while strengthening the educational experiences of students;
It is expected that the Superintendent will be community oriented, and will seek to understand and reflect the diversity and strengths of the community;
Will communicate effectively with all groups in the school community and the community at large;
Will promote positive, trusting relationships with labor associations, all staff, and community;
Is able to communicate with the Board to help establish procedural best practices and policies that reflect needs of the District;
Supports the Board, offering constructive criticism as needed and nourishes a productive Board/Superintendent relationship;
Has a record of success in holding others accountable, establishing and measuring outcomes and follow-up;
Holds high expectations for self, staff and student performance and engagement;
Is committed to enhancing academic rigor in the District;
Is knowledgeable of curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development;
Will work closely with the Board to establish and implement a strategic framework that guides and focuses District action;
Be able to effectively manage resources and align resources with the achievement of District goals;
Be well-spoken and well-written as the District’s representative;
Possess excellent communication and presentation skills and experience.
