Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Director, Mechanical Maintenance for University Facilities within Institutional Planning and Operations (IP&O). This position reports to the Senior Director. The position provides managerial leadership for the Mechanical Maintenance Departmental operations of the Cook, Douglass, College Avenue, Busch and Livingston Campuses for all residential facilities. Under the general direction of the Senior Director, this position is charged with and is responsible for developing policies and procedures for mechanical maintenance operations, assisting in the development and management of the budget, as well as coordinating and supervising the activities of the Operations Area Managers, the Foreperson for Emergency Operations, Planners/Estimators, and the Foreperson for Faculty Housing.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Guides staff in order to achieve the mission and vision of the Mechanical Maintenance Department of University Facilities and Capital Planning.
Provides leadership in order to motivate, guide and instruct personnel.
Supports a safe workplace by correcting unsafe behavior, monitoring accident reports and monitoring safety meetings.
Acts as a Second Step Hearing Officer in disciplinary matters.
Ensures the delivery of quality, cost effective service to the residential facilities of the Cook, Douglass, College Avenue, Busch and Livingston Campuses through communications, problem resolution, service enhancement, work product review and inspection, and building inspection.
Maintains an effective liaison with resident students and their parents, faculty and family occupants, Residence Life and related academic units, as well as administrative departments to ensure a harmonious and productive relationship.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, management, engineering or architecture or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of eight (8) years of increasingly responsible experience in facilities management, five (5) years of which must be in a leadership/management position, in a higher education or institutional setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent management, communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
Computer proficiency and knowledge of computerized maintenance systems necessary.
Project management experience to include knowledge of blueprint reading, contracts, RFP’s and RFQ’s, construction and building codes required.
Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.
Completion of the APPA Institute for Facilities Management or certification in a recognized Facilities Management Certification Program is desirable.
