OBJECTIVE: To direct and provide efficient construction and maintenance of substations, switching stations, special equipment and facilities. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: - Reports to Supervisor of Technical Services
- Directs: Journeyman Linemen and/or Apprentices
- Position is full-time and in non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: - Responsible for interpreting prints and completing all types of substation and switching station construction, modifications and repairs; tests and maintains all types of station and related equipment.
- Operates test equipment for approved use in testing apparatus and associated equipment.
- Installs, removes, tests, repairs and maintains SCADA equipment, transformers, reclosers, regulators, sectionalizers and other special equipment. Also performs installation, maintenance and testing of various controls and systems including low-side auto transfer schemes, transfer trip equipment, breaker travel analysis, transformer turns ratio (TTR) testing, contact resistance testing and current transformer testing etc.
- Performs switching functions, as directed.
- Performs the duties of a Lineman, as a working crew leader, directing 1 to 4 man crew; assisting in the training and evaluation of their performance.
- Responsibly enforces safety rules for the protection of assigned crew and public, and assures proper use of traffic warning devices when working on or near highways; also, responsible for reporting all accidents to supervisor.
- Responsible for assigned vehicle and/or equipment to be kept clean and in good working condition, seeing that minor repairs are made and reports to supervisor any parts or major repairs needed; also, responsible for daily inspection and the completion of reports, as required.
- Patrols lines while traveling throughout Co-op service area and makes repairs as needed; also reports conditions that cannot be corrected by the crew.
- Keeps informed of all operational and construction specification changes, to insure that all work is completed within the requirements; performs necessary clerical work incidental to the job.
- Uses two-way radio in accordance with Co-op and FCC regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS: - This job requires reading, writing and mathematics; therefore, a high school diploma or the equivalent is required.
- Must have two years of experience as a Lineman or equivalent experience in a related classification, having knowledge and specialized skills in the construction, testing, maintenance and repair of stations, and related equipment.
- In addition, other duties of equal or lesser skill may be assigned by the Supervisor of Technical Services, or assigned supervisor, to meet emergencies or other operating needs.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: - Must have demonstrated leadership capabilities and be able to communicate effectively with the public and co-workers.
- Must have demonstrated the ability and skill to plan and organize delegated work, with a minimum of supervision.
- Must have legible handwriting.
- Must hold a valid Virginia Commercial Drivers License, Class A, and a current Department of Transportation, Medical Examiner's Certificate.
- Must be available for call outs and willing to work extra and irregular hours.
- Must participate in CBEC training programs and attend technical schools, seminars, etc. as needed to keep informed of the methods and procedures necessary to maintain electrical equipment.
- Must have the physical ability to perform the essential functions, duties and responsibilities of the job, which include, but are not limited to, climbing poles and structures, bending, pulling, digging, lifting and carrying loads averaging 80 pounds.
- Must comply with all General Job Requirements.
WORKING CONDTIONS: - Working hours will be scheduled Monday-Friday between the hours of 6:30 A.M. to 5:00P.M.
- Required to work indoors and outdoors with exposure to heat and cold.
- Employee shall not be required to work outdoors in rainy or other inclement weather, except when the Cooperative finds it necessary due to an emergency.
