Summary of Major Responsibilities The Senior Molecular Lab Technologist, internally known as Senior Clinical Lab Technologist, will be a member of the clinical laboratory’s high complexity Testing Personnel as defined by CLIA. The Sr Clinical Lab Technician will isolate and quantify nucleic acids, perform PCR and Next Gen Sequencing, library construction and other associated procedures. This individual will participate in the preparation, ongoing improvement, and execution of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for patient sample testing and the creation of associated records. This individual may be asked to perform a minor subset of functions to potentially include logistics and bio-banking tasks such as biospecimen receipt, shipping, handling, and LIMS-tracked storage. This position assists with performing routine maintenance of laboratory equipment. This laboratory opportunity will be for Tuesday-Saturday, 1-2pm shift Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Performs processing of patient samples in accordance with the clinical laboratory’s standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Responsible for daily maintenance and monitoring of all laboratory equipment.
- Maintains and follows scheduled preventative maintenance, calibrations, and coordinates repair of laboratory equipment with appropriate internal and external service personnel.
- Conducts duties within a housekeeping system to ensure a contaminant-free and safe laboratory environment.
- Extracts nucleic acids from human tissues and performs quality testing, DNA/RNA library preparation, next generation sequencing, and related processes as required, in accordance with SOPs.
- Programs and operates liquid handling automation instruments and robots.
- Stores electronic data and other records as required to ensure integrity and long-term access.
- Assists with the development and upkeep of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Completes and maintains all required training upon hire and continuously throughout duration of employment.
- Maintains OSHA and other safety standards.
- Maintains regulatory standards as required (e.g. CLIA and CAP).
- May assist with ordering and inventory of laboratory supplies and stock chemicals/reagents inclusive of maintaining the safety data sheets library.
- Responsible for conducting procedures in all laboratories including the molecular laboratory (Biosafety Level 1 (BSL-1), Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory, and the molecular pre PCR laboratory.
- Assists as required with regulatory assignments and special projects.
- Documents activities and results in laboratory notebooks, worksheets and/or via electronic project tracking systems as needed.
- Performs environmental health and safety functions as assigned.
- Assists with regulatory and contracted projects as assigned.
- May be assigned primary responsibility for daily maintenance and monitoring of laboratory equipment including cryogenic storage system.
- May function as a point of contact for the temperature alarm systems and responds as required to ensure integrity of cold storage systems housing biospecimens and reagents.
- Operates and maintains all laboratory equipment including next generation sequencing instruments, liquid handling robotics, cryogenic storage equipment, biosafety cabinets and tissue culture equipment.
- Uses universal safety precautions and personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect self and co-workers from biohazardous materials, including blood-borne pathogens (BBP).
- Uses appropriate laboratory materials and techniques to avoid contaminating laboratory environment and experiments.
- Uses general office equipment, computers, and software applications such as spreadsheets, relational databases, electronic mail, internet, statistical packages and graphics packages to process and/or format data.

- Standing or sitting for long periods of time may be necessary.
- Ability to lift, lower, and maneuver items between 25 and 70 pounds.
- Considerable amount of time using various types of laboratory equipment including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, pipettes.
- May perform repetitious actions using lab tools.
- Some time spent using near vision to view samples at close range.
- Use of various chemicals may be used to perform duties.
- Use of computer and some time may be spent concentrating, reading, or analyzing data, or applying scientific rules.
- May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high speed centrifugation.
- Requires manual dexterity, bending, reaching, stooping, and sitting for long periods.
- Use basic understanding of theory and knowledge gained through previous technical and non-technical training to identify and troubleshoot situations requiring special attention.
