General Statement of Duties

Mount Wachusett Community College seeks an educator who believes that engaging and authentic teaching matters more than anything else in the pursuit of student success. The Chair of the Medical Laboratory Technology Program provides oversight of the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) approved Medical Laboratory Technology Degree Program. This position will provide leadership and instruction for a broad variety of medical laboratory technology courses within the newly constructed, state-of-the-art classroom/laboratory. The faculty member will possess communication and technological skills, academic credentials and the expertise to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to enter this allied health field.

Responsibilities

Faculty Member Duties

• Provides classroom and laboratory instruction in Medical Laboratory Technology and academic advisement for approximately 18 students;
•  Serves on college committees as elected or appointed;
• Attends regularly scheduled departmental, divisional and college meetings;
• Teaches courses as assigned by the Dean;
• Participates in student assistance/advisement;
• Maintains office hours;
• Participates in college service activities (i.e., college committees, meetings, activities, etc.);
• Participates in community service and engages in a minimum of 36 hours of documented continuing professional development every 3 years;
• Maintains clinical expertise; and
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Program Chair Duties

• The faculty member will prepare the annual program budget and make purchases based on faculty recommendations;
• Set the agenda and conduct program faculty and advisory board meetings;
• Maintain external accreditation through the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS);
• Prepare other reports as requested by the college administration and committees;
• Assist in the recruitment and orientation of new faculty;
• Maintain all contracts with agencies being utilized for clinical practice;
• Seek out new sites as needed; and
• Visit facilities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be a Medical Laboratory Professional;
• Must hold a Master's Degree;
• Holds ASCP-BOC or ASCPi-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist;
• Must have 3 years of teaching experience;
• Must have knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures and certification procedures; and
• Must be proficient in oral and written communication.

Salary: $ 44,168.00-$91,561.00

**Actual Salary will be determined in accordance with the classification system of MCCC/MTA commensurate with education & experience and therefore it is unlikely the salary will be at or near the top of the range.
