The County of Santa Barbara is seeking a full-time Deputy Director - Building & Safety Official for the Planning and Development Department.
THE POSITION: This is an at-will position, exempt from the Civil Service provisions. The incumbent serves at the pleasure of the appointing authority and reports to the Assistant Director of the Planning and Development Department.
Under direction, plans, organizes, controls and directs the operations and activities of the Building Division in carrying out the administrative and technical provisions of the construction codes and related State and County regulations; assists in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of the Division; coordinates and directs personnel resources, and information to achieve the County regulatory responsibilities and customer service goals; and supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE • Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in architecture, construction management, engineering, or closely related field AND five years of increasingly responsible experience in the administration and enforcement of construction code inspection and enforcement, two years of which were in a supervisory position; OR, • A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
