Responsible for all aspects of golf course and agronomic operations, budget, and staffing. Works with board of trustees and head golf professional to coordinate details related to golf course maintenance.
Maintain all grounds and course maintenance equipment.
Supervises and assists staff with all planting, fertilizing, care and removal of turf, plants, shrubs, trees on the course.
Supervises and participates in application and recording of fertilizer and pesticide applications in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
Operates and maintains drainage, irrigation and watering systems.
Supervises staff in proper and safe operation and maintenance of equipment. Plans and budgets for additional or replacement capital equipment.
Assist with snow removal planning.
Establish short- and long-range plans for the golf course.
Creates and maintains records of course maintenance and projects.
Prepare annual operating budget for department. Creates capital improvement budget. Manages monthly expenses including payroll, supplies, chemicals, and fertilizers to align with budget.
Plans and attends monthly green committee meeting.
Attends and contributes at monthly management meeting.
Attends educational programs to maintain current knowledge of technical and turf innovations.
Communicates with members, employees, managers, and board of trustees about current and future maintenance activities.
Plans professional development and training activities for department including safety training for equipment use, proper handling of fertilizers, herbicides and all other chemicals used on course. Has up to date MSDS’s. Conducts monthly safety meetings in accordance with OSHA rules and regulations.
Hires, schedules, trains, supervises, and evaluates all department personnel.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Basic understanding of rules of golf.
Knowledge of use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in golf course maintenance and construction work.
Knowledge of safe use, mixing and application of chemicals.
Knowledge and ability to lay our irrigation and drainage patterns, construct tees and greens, irrigation pump and pond maintenance.
Communication, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills.
