Golf course maintenance objectives are to maintain the course to be fair, playable, and enjoyable for golfers of all skill levels and to ensure that Ross’ design characteristics endure for the enjoyment of future generations.
Job summary
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and is involved in all aspects of golf course operations. Under the Superintendent’s supervision, the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will be required to plan, direct, and achieve our maintenance goals and standards. They must also possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail and aspire to progress within the turfgrass industry.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Must possess excellent organizational skills and complete tasks with limited supervision
Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with employees, management, and members
Conduct morning staff meetings and oversee daily golf course and grounds maintenance
Discuss current and future planning and personnel scheduling with Superintendent and Equipment Technician
Assist in recruiting, selecting, and onboarding staff
Responsible for training staff in all areas of course maintenance, including the proper care and storage of all equipment and materials
Ability to operate and provide training to staff members on all equipment associated with our department
Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and water components of an irrigation system
Perform and supervise chemical and fertilizer applications
A strong understanding of the game of golf
Perform manual labor as needed
Ensure and clean and safe working environment and maintenance facility
Education, experience, and requirements
Prior supervisory experience
Ability to communicate in Spanish and understand Hispanic culture preferred but not required
Turf Management Degree preferred but not required
3-5 years experience on a golf course
Valid driver's license
Obtain a North Carolina pesticide license within 3 months of hire date
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Stable, verifiable work history
Prior construction/renovation experience is a benefit but not required
