Johns Manville, a Berkshire Hathaway company, is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Associate General Counsel, Commercial/Transactional located in Denver, Colorado. This role is a director level position and reports to the Vice President and General Counsel. In this role, you will be the legal point-of-contact for one of the three business divisions and responsible for a wide range of legal matters, including negotiation of commercial contracts, supply agreements, distribution agreements and monitoring of antitrust, anti-corruption and data privacy compliance. You will collaborate with internal clients at all levels of management to effectively balance the goal of minimizing legal risk to the JM business while supporting and assisting in the achievement of its business and strategic objectives. You must have the ability to work confidently with a high level of independence and responsibility to provide legal advice and support directly to the business clients within the division you support. Manage projects and transactions and represent JM in negotiating and drafting agreements and varied business transactions
Provide legal support to Global Procurement & Logistics team regarding the purchase or goods and services
Foster and develop internal customer relationships with senior executive leadership, becoming a proactive member of the business team who can provide legal positions and support that creates a competitive advantage whenever possible
Communicate and understand a wide variety of legal and business issues; provide legal advice and counsel that consistently enhances the Company's ability to formulate business direction and strategy
Understand the needs of the business and act as a partner in solving problems
Assist the business leaders in investigation of incidents which might give rise to claims, advise on legal liability and negotiate claims or settlements
Make recommendations to the Vice President and General Counsel regarding the potential resolution of projects and transactions, including potential settlements and the initiation of legal proceedings against others
Supervise the Company's outside commercial and transactional counsel
Conduct training for JM employees on relevant legal topics, including compliance with antitrust, anti-corruption and data privacy laws
Actively participate in JM internal and external events

What You Bring to the Team:
12-15+ years of commercial and transactional experience
JD from an accredited law school and membership in the Bar of at least one state
5+ years of experience working in a large law firm, preferably national or international
5+ years of experience working in a commercial/transactional in-house legal department
Ability to work effectively on multiple projects with multiple teams
Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Possess good business acumen (e.g., knowledge of basic financial information)
Ability to influence senior and executive leaders
Additional consideration given to those with the following experience: antitrust, data privacy, M&A and real estate
Must be willing to travel approximately 25% of your time (including international travel)

Applicants can expect to make between $180,000 to $225,000 upon hire. In addition, this position is eligible for a target incentive bonus under our variable incentive plan, as well as to participate in our long-term incentive program. Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors.
