In keeping with the community values of Lewis & Clark College and the mission and direction of the Division of Student Life, the Director of Campus Living is responsible for the engaging, transformative, and efficient management of all aspects of students living and learning in community. The Director creates and executes a living and learning environment that reflects the core values of Lewis & Clark and addresses the mission of the College. Reporting to the Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students, the Director of Campus Living serves as the chief housing/residence life officer at Lewis and Clark, provides leadership and strategic planning, and ensures that the department meets both the College and student needs in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
The Director will establish and maintain a strategic direction, aligned with retention and persistence best practices, that supports the Division of Student Life and Lewis & Clark’s strategic goals. The Director will anticipate, develop, and implement best practices that are responsive to trends regarding student success, programming, and administrative operations for Campus Living. The Director will develop a residential curriculum for residence life programs that bring value and impact to student retention, engagement, facility management, student and staff employee training and development.
The Director works closely with Campus Living and Facilities staff to ensure that the residential environments are safe, well maintained, educationally purposeful, and supportive of the mission of the College.

Operational Management (40% of the time)
Develop and implement strategies to build a strong, effective, and dynamic living and learning residential community based upon best practices.
Oversee the efficient administration of all aspects of housing operations including the specifics for all residence hall move-ins and move-outs, room/meal plan changes, housing lottery for continuing undergraduates, and the assignment processes for newly admitted students.
Monitor residential facilities to ensure a safe, secure and healthy living environment.
Collaborate with Student Life colleagues, Campus Safety, and Campus Living Area Directors in maintaining an effective and responsive on-call response system in Campus Living to respond to emergencies as well as emergent issues.
Experience with emergency response and crisis management.
Serve on the on-call crisis management response team for the College as a Senior Administrator on Call (SAOC), as needed.
Serve as an integral member of the Division of Student Life Leadership Team and keep the Vice President of Student Life abreast of salient issues for the residential community and our living- learning commitment.
Ensure that the Campus Living department maintains Campus Living policies, expectations and processes, and its website.
Lead initiatives to develop and assess the effectiveness of living-learning communities and other student success/retention programs.
Work closely with other institutional offices in Admissions, Budget Office, Student Accounts, and Campus Dining, and ensure that reports, data, and information is provided in a timely manner.
Leadership and Management (40% of the time)
Responsible for the selection, training, supervision, evaluation, performance management, and discipline of the residential staff to create an optimal living environment based on learning goals and objectives, building of community, and assisting students to develop and become autonomous and resilient.
Provide leadership and strategic direction for department with a focus on the College's culture, mission and vision.
Encourage, inspire, and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among employees.
Establish long-range objectives and specify the strategies and actions to achieve them.
Build and work with diverse teams effectively.
Budget Management (20% of the time)
Maintain the departmental budget and make prudent decisions regarding resources.
Identify opportunities to enhance revenue and develop new revenue streams.
Collaborate with Facilities Services to develop, prioritize, and implement capital projects, residence hall furnishings and fixture replacements, and expenditure of cyclical renewal funds in residence halls and campus apartments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel Services or an appropriate area of specialization.
Background in University or College Housing/Residential Programs.
Requires 2-5 years of relevant experience.
Experience with budget planning, forecasting (assignments and occupancy projections), and fiscal management of a complex operating budgeting that includes revenue targets and expectations.
Knowledge of residential living, student development theory, programming philosophy, and assessment.
Experience with management, supervision, and development of professional staff.
Experience with emergency response and crisis management.
Experience working with a diverse student population and supporting the development of inclusive environments.
Proven success developing partnerships.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed.
Ability to work evening and weekends as needed.
Office Suite (e.g., Google, Word, etc.) - Intermediate ability with good working and background knowledge of all technical aspects of the position (practical application). Understand and can discuss the application and implications of changes to processes and procedures, with minimal guidance.
Prefers a Master's degree or a combination of education and relevant training/experience.
5-9 years of relevant experience.
Experience with new construction and major capital projects.
Experience with strategic and master planning, especially in the conceptualization and execution of new residential complexes.
Housing software, preferably StarRez. - Intermediate ability with good working and background knowledge of all technical aspects of the position (practical application). Understand and can discuss the application and implications of changes to processes and procedures, with minimal guidance.
