1. Under the direction of the supervisor, assumes general responsibility for the completion of assignments and emergency repairs. Assesses blueprints, sketches or drawings, diagrams, work orders, and building plans to determine type and amount of lumber or other materials and supplies required, dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated, as well as tools/equipment needed to complete work in a timely manner.2. Determines the manpower and material requirements and the means and methods to be used in accomplishing work assignments and recommends changes as necessary. Secures materials, supplies and equipment.3. Prepares layouts, sets up and operates equipment, and erects or dismantles structures as needed to conform to specifications and building codes.4. Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.5. Erects, frames, installs, assembles, and repairs structures and fixtures, cutting and shaping materials to prescribed measurements, and verifying trueness of structures, (including walls, stairs, closets, floors), according to specifications.6. Lays out and constructs work such as concrete form construction, rough framing-building and roofing, exterior finishing, interior finishing and foundations. Frames, installs, adjusts, repairs and fabricates items such as partitions, walls, ceilings, floors, windows, all doors, stairs, cabinets, counters, gates, platforms, shelves, furniture and new installation of locks sets including all hardware. Performs incidental repair or installation of glass in conjunction with the repair or installation of doors or window sash.7. Adheres to all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and equipment in the carpentry trade and construction industry.8. Demonstrates care for worksites, facilities, tools, equipment and vehicles, and reports any damage or loss to supervisor. Maintains clean work area and/or cleans job site.9. Is attentive to quality control and productivity. Estimate and procure materials, tools, equipment and supplies to maximize efficiency, minimize waste of time and materials, and ensure timely completion of jobs.10. Takes direction from supervisor and carries out instructions provided in written, verbal or diagrammatic form. Able to report work status, verbally or in writing, as required.11. Anticipates and responds to customer needs. Works with Supervisor to resolve customer service issues in a professional and efficient manner.12. Performs assignments under limited supervision. Directs and trains lower or same labor grade employees.13. Performs related duties and special projects as required or assigned within job classification. Required Skill/ability 5: Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Ability to treat fellow employees, students, staff and visitors to the University with respect. Demonstrated regular, reliable, and predictable attendance. Posting Position Title: Carpenter Required Skill/ability 3: Ability to read, write and follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Work Week: Flexible or Non-Standard (for anything other than Standard) University Job Title: Carpenter Required Skill/ability 1: Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction. Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.). Required Skill/ability 4: Ability to use technology such as computers, communications devices, equipment, and related software in support of required duties. Required Skill/ability 2: Demonstrates ability to estimate and procure materials, tools, equipment and supplies to maximize efficiency, minimize waste of time and materials, and ensure timely completion of jobs.

1. Four or more years of successful, full time experience at the journeyman level in the trade of carpentry. Majority of experience must be commercial and/or industrial. High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a vocational technical school program in carpentry trade, or successful completion of an approved apprenticeship program in carpentry trade and 4 years of carpentry experience.2. Experience and references must be provided by applicant and validated by the University. |
