Facilities Services Department is responsible for the maintenance and operations of all facilities which includes buildings, grounds, and utility systems. The Line Installer Mechanic installs, operates and maintains a large high voltage distribution system for the U.T. Knoxville campus. This position visually and physically inspects systems and equipment on a regular basis in order to maintain the safety of students, staff and the general public as they come in contact with these facilities. This position provides good customer service to internal and external customers.
Job Summary:
Participates in the maintenance, operation and construction of University electrical systems, both underground and overhead, including but not limited to 15 and 5 KV distribution, outdoor lighting systems, secondary electrical systems and all related equipment such as switches, transformers, capacitors, and generators. Performs underground or overhead construction, cable installation, splicing operations, and transformer and switch installations. Keeps records as required, plans and coordinates work, participates in the scheduling of outages, and orders materials and equipment. Works well with fellow employees and oversees contractors. Coordinates operations with local utilities and other entities as required. Complies with all safety regulations and insures that all work is performed to University standards and code requirements. Completes confined space entry permits, work permits, or other such requirement prior to commencing work. Creates and documents written plans and directs or participates in tailgate meetings prior to beginning work. Works overtime and responds to emergencies as required. Works special events as required. Operates and insures proper maintenance of heavy equipment such as line trucks, digger derricks, aerial bucket trucks, lifts and other special equipment and tools.
