To perform tasks directly associated with construction and maintenance of overhead and underground electric distribution facilities and support natural gas Local Distribution Company emergency response.
Hiring level is commensurate with education, experience, and evaluation to match up with the Union Rural Electrics progression steps from apprentice to journeyman line technician.
Performs all tasks associated with construction, operation, maintenance and service of electric facilities in accordance with the Cooperative’s safety rules, regulations, practices and reports unsafe conditions and practices.
Assists with accurate plant, payroll and other records by thoroughly completing required paperwork such as work orders, material sheets, line technicians apprentice line technicians and groundworkers time sheets, etc., in a legible and timely manner.
Must maintain regular on call status, live within 30 minutes of Union Rural Electric Cooperatives office, and be willing to help other Union Rural Electric Cooperatives crews on 24-hour basis as needed.
Exercises professional courteous conduct in dealing with the customers, other employees, and general public, projecting a positive public image.
Assists with the objective of achieving safety accreditation by maintaining a safe and clean work environment, adhering to safety policies, procedures, and government regulations, assisting as needed and directed to keep the warehouse/material storage areas and vehicles neat and clean at all times and completing all required documentation in a timely manner.
Provides support during outages by restoring service to customers as described in the Emergency Outage Plan. Provides natural gas LDC emergency response.
Assists in achieving a greater degree of teamwork by performing all other duties as assigned.
Abilities and Skills
Shall be able to perform the duties of and meet the qualifications of a Line Technician through demonstration, examination and/or performance appraisal as determined by the Cooperative.
Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to interact effectively with employees, members and general public in a variety of situations, exercising good judgment and maintaining a positive company image.
Must be able to interpret wiring diagrams, instruction manuals and possess knowledge of NESC, NEC and RUS construction standards in addition to Cooperative Terms & Conditions for Supplying Electric Service and the cooperative’s Safety Manual.
Must have thorough knowledge of the Cooperative’s mapping system or be able to learn the mapping system within the first 6 months.
Must understand basic electrical theory and its application to electric distribution systems.
Must be able to properly lift 75 pounds from the floor to waist.
Must possess and maintain a valid Ohio commercial driver’s license and meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.
Must be trained or be willing to be trained in natural gas emergency response procedures.
Must be able to effectively coordinate work and direct the actions of other line personnel.
Electrical Distribution Line Technician certification is required for Journeyman Line Technician.

Workday hours shall be determined by management with regular turns “on call”. Overtime can be expected with duration of up to 16 hours. Heavy physical labor outside is the norm. Some travel by day and overnight for training and mutual aid maybe required.
