This position will provide Civil Engineering support and apply intensive and diversified principles and practices and makes independent decisions that apply to large academic institutions; visual inspection of construction work as necessary, analysis, design, and support of maintenance operations. Develop plans and specifications for new construction, campus utility and road infrastructure, building alterations, and improvements to campus facilities. Review internal and outside consultant projects drawings, specifications, and other construction documents to ensure the design intent and campus standards are met, and report findings as required. Assist senior engineers in designs, studies, planning, and troubleshooting of Campus Facilities and Infrastructure. This position will also develop project/planning drawings in AutoCAD/CIVIL 3D and ArcGIS as required. Assist staff in clarifying plans and specification content; Issue construction directives when required. Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to Maintenance Operations, Mapping Coordinator, Landscape Architect, University Traffic Engineer, and other IPF Departments as required.
Duties associated with this position involves working at construction sites, access to work areas by ladder, scaffold, hatchways, ramps, and similar means; outdoor work on a variety of floor and ground surfaces including climbing and entry into confined spaces; visual inspection of construction work as essential elements of construction inspection, analysis, and support of maintenance operations functions. Successful candidate must be innovative and communicate well in a team environment and with campus stakeholders.
The position may be on-call for emergencies on projects they are assigned outside of normal working hours.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in civil engineering; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in civil engineering; drawing and/or design experience in AutoCAD/Civil 3D and the entire Microsoft Suite 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, etc.); possession of a valid vehicle operator's license; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
An individual which is preparing to take or has passed the Fundamental Engineering (FE) or Engineering in Training (EIT) exam and plans on obtaining their Professional Engineering License within 4-5 years. Educational background and/or work experience in structural (concrete/steel), Road Design, Hydraulics, Sewer Design, Storm Water Management, estimating, cut and fill, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics, Municipal Engineering, Project Management, and/or Construction Field. Ability to develop and interpret project documents (prints, contracts, etc.) and applicable Municipality, Utility/Road Infrastructure, safety, building system codes. Experience in reading Construction Drawings, specifications, codes, and/or other design/construction related documents. Drawing and/or design experience with ArcMAP, GIS Applications and thematic maps, point clouds, engineering modeling applications, cut and fill, estimating, and/or field surveying. Able to problem solve within a collaborative team environment; and ability to understand different perspectives while utilizing expert knowledge of the technical operations of the job. Experience with Microsoft Windows.
