The Facilities Services Department is responsible for the maintenance and operations of all campus facilities which includes buildings, grounds, and utility systems. The Sr. Line Installer Mechanic installs, operates and maintains a large high voltage distribution system for the campus. He inspects equipment on a regular basis in order to maintain the safety of students, staff, and the general public. He also fills in for the foreman during absences and train other employees as necessary. This position provides good customer service to internal and external customers.
Duties, skills and abilities;
Under supervision, the employee in this position constructs, installs, maintains, and repairs high voltage overhead and underground power lines and support facilities. This position oversees and instructs Line Installers I and Line Installer II's in the performance of their duties and in the use of tools and materials. This position includes assisting in repairing equipment to maintain proper working order and maintaining, operating and installing high voltage electrical systems and related components. This position installs, inspects, and maintains sports facility lighting and outdoor lighting for safety. Some secondary electrical work is also included. Applicant should have the ability to read blueprints, order material for projects, and provide support for special events, oversee contractors working on campus and fill in for the Foreman in his absence. Applicant must be available to work overtime as needed to support repairs or construction during emergency or scheduled outages.
Applicant should have The ability to work on live high voltage and electrical system components when necessary. The ability to climb poles, sports lighting poles, and structures. The ability to work in confined spaces, under adverse conditions, and in high places. The ability to perform hard physical work for long periods; to lift, pull, and push heavy loads. CPR training and other safety skills as required by OSHA. Applicant should have knowledge of safe work practices, be in good physical health, maintain a positive attitude, have a passion for the work and interact well with others. Applicant must be reliable in attendance and able to work long hours on a scheduled or unscheduled basis.
