Versatile plastics engineer with capability to run plastics processing machinery including injection molding, blow molding and twin screw extrusion at the Engineering Technical Center to produce components for packaging prototypes. Support the development and evaluation of new and emerging materials and molding technologies.

Plastics Concept Feasibility
Set-up and operate Injection molding, extrusion blow molding and injection stretch blow molding machines for mold trials and tests
Set-up and operate twin screw extruder for compounding materials
Establish robust, repeatable parameters through process optimization, statistical process control (SPC) and scientific molding principles
Use strong problem solving skills to troubleshoot molds, machines, auxiliary equipment, and processes
Design and execute DOE to establish new processes and for R&D work
Collaborate with mold designers/machinists, package engineers and material scientists to ensure Right First Time process and execution excellence
Develop and maintain process documentation
Provide equipment maintenance and repair support as required
Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and organized fashion that follows all required safety policies and regulations
Support the Strategic Management Initiatives by supporting all aspects of the development process.
Work with Principal Engineer to execute assigned technical sections of projects through Technical Proof of Manufacturability to ensure design and construction meets all Estee Lauder engineering requirements.
Execute development test plans for all assigned technical sections.
Work with Principal Engineer to define specifications, design criteria and defect ranges to ensure optimal process flow from manufacture of components through filling and assembly.
Develop process and equipment specifications and validate that technical drawings clearly identify all aspects required to define the assigned technical unit operation.
Ensure all assigned technical unit operations are completed and meet the intended design, quality, cost, functionality, and manufacturability objectives.
Ensure assigned equipment unit operations are operating efficiently at optimal rate of production.
Keep informed through colleagues, vendors, journals, professional affiliations, and seminars of new materials, processes, and procedures.
Support the Technical Project Manager with risk identification or ways to mitigate risks to support a component availability requirement.
Identify and inform the Technical Project Manager of any risks and or delays during the course of development.
Education / Certification
Bachelor of Science Degree or equivalent technical school training in Plastics Engineering / Processing; Masters of Science preferred Engineering.
Minimum of 1-5 years of experience in a variety of plastics processing methods
1+ years experience in cosmetic equipment or regulated equipment development.
Proficiency in computer systems including 3D Design Systems and Analysis (SolidWorks preferred), MS Excel, Word, andOutlook.
Working knowledge of manufacturing process and equipment development.
Ability to demonstrate strong fundamental engineering skills
Technical competency in analysis of geometric objects in 2 and 3 dimensions including understanding of clearances, fit and finish of assemblies and sub-assemblies.
Ability and hands-on experience to set up and operate molding equipment
Demonstrated expertise in scientific injection molding principles and troubleshooting
Understanding of molding machines, injection molds function, thermoplastic resins, strand extrusion, colorants and auxiliary equipment (robots, conveyors, dryers, thermolators, material loaders, gravimetric blenders, pelletizers)
Basic knowledge of plastic molding simulation tools (Moldflow) and design of experiments (DOE)
Demonstrated ability to analyze data and create technical reports
Familiarity with MS Office environment
Willingness to travel domestically as needed
