Maintain, repair, replace, alter, construct, or demolish a wide variety of street, parking, signage, drainage, and building systems using all types of heavy equipment, materials, tools, and methods and supervise subordinate equipment operators as designated by the Heavy Equipment Operator Supervisor.
The following examples are intended as illustrations only of the various types of duties assigned to positions allocated to this classification. Estimate, plan, and coordinate maintenance, construction, demolition, renovation, and related projects. 2. Supervise, schedule, and assign work of assigned heavy equipment operators and outside contractors; and monitor their work in order to assure proper staffing and quality standards. 3. Inspect jobs, equipment and tools in order to assure compliance with codes, guidelines, University standards, and safety rules. 4. Verify and approve requisitions; order, control and account for supplies and equipment in order to maintain an adequate inventory for assigned projects; document and approve job time and materials used. 5. Inspect plans, prints, sketches and specifications for assigned projects and related jobs and provide technical assistance. 6. Inspect streets, parking areas, sidewalks, and drainage structures for maintenance and repair needs. 7. Construct, erect, install, repair, or demolish structures, components, or fixtures associated with streets, parking areas, sidewalks, drainage, or buildings, by using hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment. 8. Fabricate and install forms for poured-in-place materials. Pour and finish concrete. 9. Perform the survey, layout, and collection of data needed in the design or construction of streets, parking areas, sidewalks, and drainage structures. 10. Determine the type and dimensions of materials and components to be used. 11. Inspect and maintain equipment. 12. Interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and job specifications. 13. This position has responsibility for the health and/or safety of others. Responsibilities include overseeing the safe use of equipment and materials and maintaining safety standards for the support staff when working in hazardous or dangerous conditions. 14. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education: High school diploma or GED. Experience: Six (6) years of experience in commercial, industrial, or residential construction using heavy equipment with conventional and innovative techniques. Licenses: Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License.
Position requires completion of a pre-employment drug test which indicates an absence of illegal drug use.
Post secondary training or education in a relevant field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade. Knowledge of applicable codes, rules, and regulations. Ability to interact in a professional manner with customers and the public. Ability to move, lift, or carry up to and occasionally over 75 lbs.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
1. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions. 2. Frequently lifts 100 pounds. 3. Ability to operate equipment for several hours without a break.
