Performs installations, maintenance, and inspections of electric utility system.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Construct, maintain, and repair distribution lines overhead and underground.
Perform high voltage field switching, including working with energized high voltage equipment with approved hotline tools.
Maintain, repair substation, transformers, breakers, and other parts of the transmission system.
Construct and maintain 3-phase meter loops with CT and potential instrument transformers and transformer banks.
Operate aerial basket, trencher, digger truck, and other tools and equipment associated with linework.
General maintenance on all utility equipment.
Maintain streetlights and secondary services.
On standby to answer calls and make service runs outside normal work schedule.
Climb power poles and steel towers.
QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS-EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
High School graduation or equivalent.
Completion of the Journeyman Certification program required.
Possession of Illinois CDL Class B.
Interpersonal/communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively and represent the City of Rochelle in a professional and tactful manner.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of journey linesperson’s work in electrical transmission and distribution systems; materials, tools and methods used in electrical construction, installation, and maintenance.
Ability to operate aerial basket, trencher, digger truck, and other tools and equipment associated with a linesperson.
Meeting current residency requirement within 1 year from date of hire is required.

Employee must be available and present for work as scheduled and subject to call-in.

The work environment is a typical construction environment that requires an employee to regularly work in the outside weather conditions. The employee frequently subject to hazardous working conditions; works near moving mechanical parts, areas near electrical current and/or moving vehicles and is frequently exposed to all adverse weather conditions, extreme heat/cold, wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extremely high voltage electricity.
The noise level in the work area is usually moderate, but occasionally high.
