Firefly Fiber Broadband is looking for a GIS Technician to collect, analyze, and input engineering data to be used in the development of system databases and map designs to reflect existing system status and to build and maintain an integrated relationship with the billing, fiber engineering, outage information and fiber management system databases.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
Perform operating and maintenance functions of the graphical information system (GIS) of CVSI/Firefly broadband facilities.
Use GIS software to analyze the spatial and nonspatial information in the database.
Upload and verify completed work orders to GIS database.
Support CVSI/Firefly departments by providing GIS data transfers, graphical and data analysis and maps to support business decisions and efficient workflow.
Build queries to retrieve mapping data to support system studies, fiber construction reporting compliance, and cost allocation.
Provide job location and design information for the building, upgrading or maintenance of fiber lines/fiber network and right of ways.
Provide input follow up as needed with construction, marketing, accounting, and maintenance crews to assure jobs proceed smoothly.
Track, maintain and code invoices for construction of broadband plant facilities.
Work closely with fiber network design consultant to receive regular GIS updates and verify data of completed fiber network.
Performs other duties as may be required Assists with special projects as needed.
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
Must possess valid driver's license with history of operating vehicles safely
Adheres to bylaws, guidelines, policies/procedures, and philosophies of CVEC and CVSI/Firefly to effectively serve and support members and subscribers

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate Degree of Applied Science GIS and/or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Minimum of 2 years' work experience in operating CAD and/or GIS software and associated database required; 3 or more years preferred experience preferred.
2 or more years of Map Reading and/or surveying experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
A minimum of one-year experience in any of the following: ESRI technologies (ArcGIS Desktop and extensions, ArcGIS Server, ArcObjects), Intergraph, Microstation, personal geodatabases, SharePoint, or AutoCAD. Experience in using Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 10.
Knowledge of map reading, plotting, and interpretation
Demonstrated problem solving skills. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Knowledge of surveying and staking sheet preparation.
Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
Ability to effectively communicate written and verbally. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area, circumference, and volume. .
Ability to explain geographic trends and findings to clients.
PREFERRED:Understanding of fiber design (FTTH) construction drawings and map symbology
Experience using Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, MSSQL; Visual Studio; C#; MapObjects; ArcFM, ArcSDE; Model Builder; Spatial Analyst; Network Analyst, 3D Analyst, Python, Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), or Data Interoperability.
